Guys.. as a former amateur boxing addict who has never had shin splints… I highly recommend you guys start jumping rope. I used to jump rope 6 times a week for 30 minutes straight. If I stop running for months and get back into it again, I can do so and go hard and not get shin splints because of how conditioned my ankles are. Start jumping rope guys!
@xDinomanx3 ай бұрын
Same here, did Muay Thai kickboxing for 6 years. Jump rope/skipping rope is part of warm up. Used to absolutely suck at the rope until I saw others do it and then managed to get it down. Then went from the skinny rope to weighted rope. That thing hits your shins like a whip if you don’t time your jumps right. That and it’s great for strengthening your shoulders too.

Hey Jake, love your videos. I gotta give you additional info however on the flight hours portion at the beginning of the video (Got a PPL, working on IFR at the moment) The civilian roadmap to go fly for the airlines is: Private Pilot License (PPL) -> Instrument Flight Rules (IFR) -> Commercial Pilot License (CPL) -> CFI/ CFII Commercial license is first license to get if you want to get PAID to fly, PPL cannot be compensated whatsoever for flying. Typically after a CPL you are at around 250-350 hours. The minimums to get hired by the airlines is 1500 hours (with some other additional certifications like Multi-engine time, cross country PIC, turbine time, etc.). When people get hired at 1500 hours they start at the Regional level, then they can move up to the big boys like Southwest, Delta, United. There is a 1000 hour Restricted ATP (R-ATP) for part 141 schools and 750 hours R-ATP for pilots that got their pilot training in the military. So regionals can hire Military and R-ATP earlier than the regular 1500 hours. However, the weight of said school/ military experience is somewhat nill at the moment because hiring has slowed down due to Boeing and Airbus issues. Right now airlines expect around 2000-3000 hours minimum and sign a 5 year contract before considering you. The hiring climate is all cyclical however, 2021-2023 if you had 1500 hours and can fog a mirror you could be picked up immediately no contract because the airlines were desperate for pilots. To get from 300 -> 1500 hours the most popular option is to become a Certified Flight Instructor (CFI)/ Certified Flight Instructor Instrument (CFII). The timeline to get all of your certifications takes 1-2 years on average. Then another 1-2 years grinding hours as a CFI to meet airline minimums. CFI's get on average 30-50 hours a month and get below minimum wage on average. Part 141 schools like ATP, Embry Riddle, Aeroguard, etc. require you to take out an unsecure loan thru Sallie Mae typically at 110k and 13-17% variable interest over a 15-20 year period. The total of that loan payment averages out around $1500 per month if you defer it, and the total loan amount matures to around 300k - 400k. This route is very risky because these schools can kick you out if you are not learning at their pace and you will still be on the hook for the loan. It is very hard to make a 1500 a month loan payments + bills from life responsibilities as a CFI that gets paid on average lower than minimum wage. Part 61 schools are pay as you go Mom and Pop shops. No loans and the average cost for them is 60k to get all your ratings. The airlines DO NOT CARE about where you get your ratings from. There is no difference between a CPL from an ATP school vs the Mom and Pop shop down the street. It is the same license in the eyes of the airlines. Keep up the good work on the vids. CHAMPS FOR LIFE!!!
@dattran-wy3sr3 ай бұрын
from 400--> 1500 hours you can get other flying jobs instead of just CFI like fly skydiver, survey and pipeline pilot and best job is to be second pilot on a private jets. With those other jobs you can get to airlines a bit quicker around 1 year. Usually regionals and big airlines will pick up military pilots first before everyone else and those guys have more 1500 hours

I started learning to swim when I was young in the Army infantry (enlisted) over 20 years ago, worked hard for a long time to learn and improve. I eventually became an officer (green to gold), and can swim and tread water better than most average people. I've improved greatly over the decades. So it can be done. Learning to swim is an important part for the military, especially certain paths. But it is also great on a personal level, being able to swim out to the middle of a beautiful lake, float and relax on your back and watch the sky, or play with your kids, etc.
@nickbryan2173 ай бұрын
Definitely have to be able to swim if you go any kind of SOCOM you need to be able to swim. Now they all aren’t like BUD/S where you have to swim at a high level, but can you tread water, swim in full uniform and gear, etc… do you have to be able to swim a 500 in 9 mins? Not necessarily but be confident in the water. SF they divide their Battalions into Mountain, Airborne, and Dive units… you go to a dive unit you’re going to Scuba and there you definitely have to be able to swim at a very high level. But here’s the thing, I don’t believe you get to pick which unit you go to or what goes into getting slotted.

There are reduced flight times available for ex military or students enrolled in a part 141 school. Also a flight instructor is a different license than a commercial license, but you must have a commercial pilot license to be a flight instructor

I'm going to add to what Jake was saying about swimming and make this point clear....EVERY SOLDIER SHOULD SEEK TO LEARN HOW TO SWIM. That Marine needs to understand that you will do pool work in the Army infantry. And in special operations, you will be evaluated/tested on your ability to swim because you will be operating in various water environments. You have to have the ability to SURVIVE in a water environment in both training and in combat. No, you don't have to be at the level of a diver or a Navy Seal, but you have to have the ability to effectively swim 50-100 meters and then tread water for 5 mins. Bottom line, if you plan to be infantry or special operations, you need to be well rounded in a number of skills, and swimming is one of them. In the infantry, you will be doing water survival/drown proofing, and being able to swim with your gear. That Marine needs to stop being afraid of the water and get motivated to learn something that will save his life and make him a better soldier. Stop looking for a way out or look to cut corners because that mentality will follow you into SFAS, RASP, or even serving in an infantry unit. That Marine needs to do a deep self assessment before tackling combat arms. There is no escaping the water and you don't want to be that guy scared to swim. At least master the basics of swimming if you are capable.

@jakezweig3 ай бұрын
What state? No there are not. Most if not all are inside jobs. Please tell me more
@AMZ192523 ай бұрын
@@jakezweig Every states NG is understaffed. MI slots are state and unit dependent mainly because some states have MI BNs while others are limited to the slots within the staff sections (S2) of the MICO in the BEBs. It’s not unheard of for a 2LT to become the S2 right out of BOLC because there are no MI CPTs to fill the slots. Promotions within MI can be limited so many rebranch at O-3. MI slots can be limited, but plenty of Commissioned Officer slots. Especially for those willing to attend NG OCS-either traditional or accelerated.
@jakezweig3 ай бұрын
@@AMZ19252 where ? Where are these dudes coming from? The unit? Are you an officer?
@AMZ192523 ай бұрын
@@jakezweig Yes sir I am. I don’t feel that I can give you an accurate answer that reflect all states. But from my POV, NG OCS produces I would say about 40-60% of the states officers, with I would say majority of those having done accelerated OCS (8 weeks) vs Traditional OCS (16 months via weekend drills). The other 30-40 percent come from ROTC and then you will have a few that attend Federal OCS at Ft Moore. Most MI officers that I have known split between prior service and non- prior service. Surprisingly many enlisted MI don’t want to branch MI when they commission. You are correct in that there are not a lot of MI slots, but it’s due to MTOE. When the Army shifted to BCTs it dissolved BN sized MI units and made these positions organic to the BCT. The # of slots will also fluctuate year to year due to attrition and promotions. IMO MI can be a great branch, but I don’t feel that most get to flourish and grow to their full potential in a part time environment of the NG.

Sir, regional airlines and legacy airlines like Delta, American etc operate under part 121. In order to operate either one of them one must hold an airline transport pilot license or restricted airlines transport pilot license. Your claim that you need 750 for regionals and 1500 for big boys is wrong. They all have the same requirements. Also a commercial pilot it is not a certified flight instructor.
