In 5 years mixing bands going deaf in a low down dirty venue in Wellington I got to mix hundreds of bands. By FAR the BEST experience I ever had as a sound guy, musician, and live music experiencer was the day these three guys showed up. I am so stoked to hear this and I pray their album reaches the world in ways not dreamed of.

For real. I was playing this in my car with a friend of mine in the passenger seat. He couldn’t believe it when I told him they’re a three piece. Lol I don’t know of any musician that has a better understanding of how to use effects such as delays and loopers than Jeff Boyle. Maybe the guys from Mogwai. Jeff times his echo patterns in ways that they weave in and out of each other. It’s just fucking amazing. He’s the only person I know of that can do it this way.

'Sounds like they're using a lot of electronics (samplers, repeaters,pedal effects, etc.) to produce a really deep, layered sound. A lot of good mainstream bands have been 3-way ensembles: Rush, ZZ Top, for example, so it's not unusual.
@sethdrouin3871
@sethdrouin3871 Жыл бұрын
@@timf3099 Yeah, you've missed the point. Not debating there's a lot of good mainstream bands that are three pieces; certainly there are. My comment was about the ability of a three piece instrumental band to conjure mental imagery of a titanic scope. ZZ Top, to my knowledge, doesn't have any instrumentals, and Rush only has a few. La Villa Strangiato is perhaps in a similar category as Jakob's music in it's ability to invoke imagery in the mind, but other than that, I can't imagine how either of those bands are comparable to Jakob's sound, other than "they're a three piece."

Also, the song writing / arrangement really puts it over. There's great feeling, vision, whatever. Just virtuoso playing would put them in a huge crowd with jazz pickers, prog wankers, etc. This song sounds better every time I listen to it. I've never liked ear pain but I'd really like to hear them playing loud enough to make my liver quiver.
