I loved this; can't help but feel the emotion! Can someone translate the words that are being sung and the origin of the inspiration?

I feel the same and wish I understood the language. This was part of the Ochas suite that premiered in September of 2014 at Jazz at Lincoln Center. Jazz Night in America created a video that has some songs, and also includes background on the creators and their inspirations. kzbin.info/www/bejne/nqaqf5aDZb12obs

Well..this is a very extensive work by Winton Marsallis. This suite is evocative of the Yoruba Religion from the area of Nigeria. This is the part of West Africa where most of the slaves were captured and brought to America. These slaves brought with them their religious believe which in a sense are very similar to the Christian religions. They believe there are 10 deities which rule the Universe. This suite has one piece dedicated to each deity. The name of each piece is the name of the corresponding deity. The deities as a group are called the OCHAS.. The drums you see and hear on the video are the "Batas Drums". These drums have a very special meaning in the Yoruba religion since they represent what we call the in Christianity, the Wholly Trinity. They are played exclusively in religious ceremonies. To play these drums, the person has to undergo a purification process. The players always wear white clothes (purity) including the shoes. The drums shall always be played as a trio (Trinity), never as a separate one (Trinity can not be divided/broken). What is really amazing for me is that his suite expose the very roots of the ritmic essence we see in Jazz and Caribbean musi todayc. It is the essential root of what we hear today, in other words, the original ritmic ancestry This is an inmense work from Winton Marsallis which obviously has been produced without commercial interest in mind, but has an enormous educational value. Just imagine the research work and time that Marsallsi spent in investigating, composing and arranging a suite that is over two hours long. It is just mind blowing !!! the blending of a full blown orchestra with the BAta Drums is just ut of this world !!!!. Thanks Wynton !!!.

@@omarvillarrubia8487 I had experience with Yoruba in Cuba, and many years later I'm now studying both Yoruba in Cuba and Nigeria. And the language too. 😀It's all very fascinating and spititually uplifting.
