Jalen Brunson CEMENTED Himself As The King Of New York as Gilbert Arenas & The Gil's Arena Crew react to Brunson signing a team friendly contract extension with the New York Knicks and break down his decision to give up over $100 Million to allow the team to build a championship roster around him. They discuss the impact this move has on the future of the league and what moves the Knicks will make to reward Brunson, debating if the team will move guys like Julius Randle & Mikal Bridges in favor of an MVP caliber player.
Gil’s Arena premieres every Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday at 11:30am PT / 2:30pm ET.

@@JawaPenguin16the billionaires already did that with the aprons lol. No matter what they’re going to make their money now thanks to these hard caps. They gave themselves an out to cut costs when it comes to the roster due to the new salary cap rules (e.g. clippers). They pretty much have put this in the hands of the players to decide whether the money is important, or if winning is important. It sucks cause some dudes will lose out on a ton of money, but this is what the players union agreed to.

The issues that Julius and fans had was the season before. This past season there were no issues. The 12-2 record when OG showed up shows how valuable Julius is. They weren’t just winning close games, they were dominating teams during that run. They will be fine

Knicks fan here. I use to hate Julius when he was immature and couldn't face that NY pressure but now I absolutely love. You gotta understand that there were totally different dynamics in each of his 5 seasons here. The culture is much better now in this Brunson era and every new addition just seemingly works so well. With less pressure on Randle, the more confidence he will have to play at an all-star level even with this stacked lineup.

@@thejohnsoneffect3467 Exactly! Knicks fans and even himself were putting on too much pressure to win. It was just him and Barrett really. As a former Randle hater, I can honestly say , we fans believe in his desire to win, his work ethic, his talent; and now for me at least, he also showed he has already begun to address his deficiencies, has his ego in check, knows its Brunson's team, and is happy to play a role. There is no need to trade Randle. Knicks are only one solid C away from being certified frontrunners to be in the finals for the next 5+ years.

It's not about whose team it is. That's media propaganda. Smh. A healthy Randall is giving us 24 10 7. With a full healthy squad, Brunson won't (need) to average 30. Before Randall got hurt, brunson was averaging 25 and Randall was getting triple doubles. We're going to be one of the fastest teams in transition with the #1 defense in the league. Most of our wins will be blowouts. I doubt brunson will be the #1 option (out of necessity).

Exactly. Owners don’t take pay cuts. It’s the front office to fill out a competitive roster around Brunson. He should get paid for his value and the Knicks have to figure the rest out.

He did set himself up for a bigger deal later. In 2028 he is eligible for a $323 million dollars contract extension and in 2029 he will be eligible for a $418 million dollars extension. When you sacrifice to gain and not be selfish you will win.

@@jaleelthompson927 For sure. Not many 32-33 yr olds are worth the supermax either way and it’s unlikely Brunson will at that age.All people are saying is he will be eligible for a big pay raise. And he’ll definitely get that big pay raise barring serious injury or huge drop off in production.

People don’t understand this about Dolan. I’m a diehard Knicks fan. Dolan doesn’t know basketball, but he will viciously defend his people. If Brunson wins a chip, Dolan will make sure Brunson has a golden statue as big or bigger than Kobe’s.
