@@joegiants4219 How is it professional to call someone a name that isn't their given name? It is childish and pathetic. You can say that they aren't performing as well as they can but there are other factors that you have to consider. I don't care how much someone makes, it doesn't give you the right to make call them a name that you think is appropriate. It's crazy that people actually think name calling is ok. If we were in middle school and immature, I would agree with you but I assume most of us are adults. You can criticize someone without calling them a name, or maybe they lack the ability to keep it professional. Now, if a player is acting like a child, you can say they are acting like a child without calling them a child. It's not a difficult thing to understand or do.

I side with Jalen overall in this matter. When it comes to name calling and things of the sort, it's unnecessary and unprofessional. Unfortunately what has happened is that in this 24/7-365 news cycle the story extends much further than between the lines of play. Skip stated that he decided to do studio because he felt his objectivity was being compromised by being ingratiated with the players. And that's fine. But you can't remove yourself from the players and then psychoanalyze them and judge their character on a daily basis as Skip does. And I like Skip, he's cool with me, but that's the truth. I have more respect for Stephen A because he at least is around a lot of the players he talks about on a more personal level. But what I never liked and was highlighted in this entire episode was the double standard that there is with athletes and media and fans. Anybody who has dedicated their life to any craft should have the accepted right to respond to any criticism they receive if they don't agree. At the least respond. But when an athlete responds the public (media/fans) counter with "You should be above that" "This is beneath you". Why? We're all people. Because a person makes money they don't have the right to respond without criticism? I don't get it. And I know some people may not care, but I thought Skip was ridiculously disrespectful to Chris Bosh. To have the audacity to say "I'll continue to call you Bosh Spice until you play up to your potential" had me dumbfounded. Utter disrespect. He came on the show, respectfully told him how it was disrespectful and offensive yet Skip pretty much "Fuck you, prove me wrong". IMO and the opinion of many, comparing a man to a woman, which Skip is doing when he says that, his a high offense amongst men. And in a professional realm, it's unacceptable because it puts Bosh in a lose/lose situation. It's not like Bosh can take care of him like they're on the streets. And Skip's smugness like he's some master or overseer above human decency in the matter was appalling. I thought we live in a world when something is offensive to someone and their family we discontinue to do that. But Skip in my opinion had that white supremacy come out with how he spoke to Bosh. "Listen Boy, I'ma call you what I want until I see fit to stop. F*** your feelings. I'll be the judge". But anyways, save the disrespect for the barbershop and around the way. That's not necessary for ESPN or any major sports outlet. If a player isn't playing up to their potential, that's an indictment on the AS WELL as the scouts and Front Offices that evaluated and paid these guys. Don't get mad when athletes get upset but the minute someone criticizes anything a media person does they get super defensive.

I completely agree. It's one thing to analyze , however what is going on now is straight bullying. I think Jalen's point overall point was that the line between journalism and the TMZ like stuff that ESPN does has blurred. Some of the personalities in all forms of media are trying to be like the celebrities that they cover, yet want to be respected as serious journalists. The more attention they bring to themselves, the more it helps their brands. The media covers for their peers but will come down on a former athlete that they perceive as doing the same.

Jalen’s point isn’t what everyone else on the show sloppily interpreted it to be. He is making too fine of a distinction that the others can’t make. The use of qualifying negative names (“name callling”) is beyond their professional. A person can have an epically terrible game, but to call them “trash” in a general sense is a a problem. It’s a hair away from saying “they played like trash” but the Skips and Stepehen As run their mouths so loudly and constantly they don’t ever see it. Calling the player trash in a general sense requires far more than the observations they just made, and beyond that it’s them just letting their lips flop

From the time Stephen A started talking on this segment (pt5 of 5) up to the 335 mark, is probably some of the best talking he's EVER done. It wasn't rehearsed or thought about a couple of hours or days before the broadcast. This was said right off the top of his head, and quite frankly, it was not only brilliant, but 100% spot on. One of the points I agree with most is, in a discussion with an analyst who's never played and an athlete turned analyst, especially an athlete that's relatively new, I'm going to trust the analyst knowing there's no bias involved.

Stephen A. Is wrong , I would trust an athlete before a journalist due to the fact athletes play the game and experience injuries @ the same time ⏲️. Stephen A. Only talks about what he hears not what he sees.

They owe their job to the game and the players... Those screaming and ranting Stephen and Skip are just puppets of the public. Populism is the first word that comes to mind. Gues a large part of people in the States find this amusing and rather be amused than to be informed. Name calling is disrespectfull and they are bad rolemodels. I wouldn't want to watch and listen to these arogant loudmouths and am amazed that they get the platform and ratings they do.

This is when sports became more about drama and less about the actual game

Jalen jus spoke facts...some reporters help advance the sport some take away from the sport(skip,Steven a)

@6:24 "...you're right. I don't like the way you said it, but it is the truth." That's the heart of the entire matter really. Reporters are supposed to report, analysts are tasked with analyzing aspects of the game, but then you have critics and pundits who tote and often cross the line despite backing it up with stats, and it's especially in the way some of them deliver their critiques.

You gotta catch Stephens face when Skip says it...
@thuurmans2 жыл бұрын
They can only dish it out. Skip doesn't realize he agrees with Jalen a lot and then says something incredibly stupid.
@christopherc785510 жыл бұрын
valid points by both side but when an athlete makes as much money as they do, people are going to be overly critical. I think jalen is being a little sensitive. You grew up in detroit jalen, you were called a lot worse before you were getting paid. They make millions of dollars by playing sports, I think they can handle criticisms
@DominicanSheik10 жыл бұрын
they should be able to take criticism, Jalen has gone soft. "talking from a players perspective" stfu.

Jalen is amazing because he keeps it real, and played well at the highest level, these others can't say that.

you see, its business. stephen a was correct, his audience is the public. if they didnt have this argument. u think us as the audience would pay so much attention to this????? its all marketing. when ur playing decent. nobody cares, but when u play like a scrub. they call u out. nicknames are part of the marketing. sadly, the public likes it!!!!!!!dont u see Jay was talking the twitter world is paying attention???

So all of this is because Jalen asked Skip about his high school stats and skip claims it's a lie and say Jalen crossed the line?
