Really cool to see such totally different players get together and play. Kind of puts all these stupid "best guitarist" pols in perspective. They are all different, and all great. And when they play together, everyone wins. Especially the audience.
@tonytrabort49392 жыл бұрын
@@57mab I guess I'm going to go ahead and kind of disagree. You could take Lukather and May and interchange them.....they both play with ample distortion, huge treble/gain, scale-related 40-yard dashes, and screech the rock guitar sound of the 80's. Carlton is a more skilled player and incorporates a broader style range (blues, jazz, chordal structures, plus more refined and cleaner Gibson guitar tone). Carlton is head and shoulders better than the other two....sorry. If you don't play, you wouldn't know.
@tonytrabort49392 жыл бұрын
@@57mab Forgive me, sir, not wanting to start a debate about who's the best guitarist in the world debate. However, I did feel compelled to suggest that Carlton was a more accomplished and skilled musician and player than the other guys ....May and Lukather. Moreover, they come at things from different musical genres, if not different geographical areas.....Lukather and Carlton from Southern CA and May from the UK. My point was about relativity more than crowning Lukather or May with any award or qualitative.....lol. No offense intended. We all have different tastes....based on life experiences, musical knowledge, etc. Larry is just a better musician than the other two, that's all.

@@adamdrummer1991 No, I realize that....I'm offering my subjective reaction to the relative prodigy or talent of each guy.....the others don't belong on the same stage with Larry. Three masters! May’s tone is still the most original even though Carlton is a jazz virtuoso and Lukather a great shredder. You can hear B.B. King, and Clapton’s influence at times. We were seated for the first show, and they invited us to hang at the bar for the second show while the incoming audience took our seats. I sneaked in during soundcheck, and just the vibe between them was worth the admission. It only got better after that.

All of this actually makes me feel better as a guitar player. I mean, no doubt these guys are great. Carlton is clearly the best blues player (and possibly the best player overall), and May and Lukather are virtuosos in their own right. But what this performance demonstrates is that even the best guitar players are not at their best in all circumstances and/or styles. It's easy to get down on oneself because one can't play like so and so... but that's okay. Find your own strengths, develop those, and become great at being YOU.

All four of them incredible musicians. But everyone remember, Brian's father Harold May designed and built that Red Special guitar from the gournd up with a little bit of help from Brian himself. Not too many players like that before or since. In the electric guitar space, Les Paul is the only other one that immediately comnes to mind. EVH built his out of parts that already existed. Several other greats designed their own models but got others to buid them for them.

Is it just me or is Brian not the best improviser? I'm a huge fan and he's obviously a brilliant guitarist but I've got to say when I've seen him play in an improvised setting his playing,while good, is not quite as top notch as you'd expect from a guitar legend such as him self. Maybe it's sampling bias but between this and his video jamming with Les Paul that's sort of the impression I've been getting.
