Kamina Johnson Smith, Minister for Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade of Jamaica, addresses the general debate of the 78th Session of the General Assembly of the United Nations (New York, 19 - 26 September 2023).
The UN General Assembly (UNGA) is the main policy-making organ of the Organization. Comprising all Member States, it provides a unique forum for multilateral discussion of the full spectrum of international issues covered by the Charter of the United Nations. Each of the 193 Member States of the United Nations has an equal vote.
The United Nations is an international organization founded in 1945. Currently made up of 193 Member States, the UN and its work are guided by the purposes and principles contained in its founding Charter.
The UN has evolved over the years to keep pace with a rapidly changing world.
But one thing has stayed the same: it remains the one place on Earth where all the world’s nations can gather together, discuss common problems, and find shared solutions that benefit all of humanity.

The problem in the world is that some societies do not have capable people governing their country, they would do better to advertise all the positions internationally to bring in the most capable people to manage the country. This would make the most struggling economically countries function much better than they are at the moment. Nice speeches are meaningless, what societies expect is capable people managing their societies.

Rubbish! Every country needs to look after their own people. In G.Britain 90% of the Head teachers are English. In the Hospitals all the top dogs are English. The Indian and Pakistani Doctors doing the hard jobs saving lives; whilst their English superior sits around the computer.. Y should a country employ foreigners instead of using their ppl.. If a country doesn't have brainy ppl, send them overseas to study and train ,then return to build their country. During Covid it was noted that in some hospitals in USA, Canada and UK the doctors and nurses were giving their own ppl priority; beds were scarce and as a result people who were born outside of these countries had less chance if getting a bed irrespective of how serious they had covid. Every country puts their ppl first and rightly so. The European Union cannot employ a foreigner for a position without advertising the position in every member state; if no one qualifies or need the job then the foreigner can get it.

@@edwardsewell8366 If you say every country puts its people first, should the British kick out all the foreigners, like it is in most countries around the world. You sound racist and want racist behaviour in your country but not UK? Why is that? Do you think UK would become a beautiful country once again if that was done?

Ma'am Jamaica is a beautiful country.. great to hear about the progress. Thank you for thinking of cohesion! i hope promotion of indigenous technology is on the cards for Jamaica as well? thank you Ma'am. Globalization is an issue t this point with to much control by global organizations and individual investors. both SDG and ESG stifles diversity and forces false diversity on people. I do not agree with that. grants and loans should take into account local needs.

Kamina went up and read a story look how the great Mia Mottley went up and spoke from her heart and did not have to be looking up and down like Jamaica kamina lol. What a shame that Jamaica went to this summit and read like it’s a story competition. Mia Mottley you are the greatest in the Caribbean right now. Bravo to Mia .
