Both Brits and the commonwealth nations do not know the indepth of this situation. Even through the Caribbean countries are poor, they still had to pay to the U.K. , yes the U.K. Does give donations in form of materials to hospitals sometimes, but the Hugh amount coming out of the country could contribute to a better community. Also, the U.K. Is he only big nation in the world where lots f counties depend on it, yet these countries are not free to ever visit or right to work there. In the 60's it was opened to the commonwealth to comevand work. When these people arrived they were told they were black British. In the 90's lots receive letter stating that they needed to get their status known because they are not citizens. Most ignore and do not believe. Around 1995, lots of Brits complaining that they are too much black and Caribbean people. Sole people started telling authorities that they are lots of Jamaicans, Barbadians undocumented. Mist was arrested and put in jail, even being deported thus knowing as criminals because their grandparents did not believe that they were Brits and did just like the Brits. There were a time that their were so much undocumented people that the politics started to tell the people the reason for your suffering and you can't find job, it's because of these migrants. They'd not told the people that some of these people are born in the U.K., never step food in the Caribbean but did not have the nationality because one or more of their parent is not U.K. Born. When it comes to Caribbean people, birth rights do not give them freedom. It's funny because I did nit think about these things until my best friend who is white said to me years ago, that she was not born in the U.K., yet she's still treated better than the windrush people. By the way she did not like the work windrush and explain me why it has being called that. You know, it taken little, just be fair with people and you can change the world. Acknowledge the truth. Do you guys knewthat they were another deportation of windrush people just before William's visits and ithas being postponed. I bet you in two to three weeks it will take place. Isn't this problematic ? Imagine a person who never put foot on a land , but is deported because if his grandparents , us this right? The monarchy us well admired and it could be forever, just by thinking, wanting , doing, wishing the same thing and treatment for everyone. If you're a criminal, you're a criminal no matter your background.

This has been talked about for a while. If a referendum is held in the future and the people of Jamaica want this it will happen. It will be decided by the people themselves. Even if they decide to become independent and have an elected Head of State they can still stay in the Commonwealth group of nations. This is a group of large and small nations which support each other in trade, education , culture and give aid to each other in crisis. eg. Fiji got Commonwealth aid after the recent earthquake and tsunami. There are over 50 countries involved worldwide and there are countries wishing to join so it is expanding. The Queen is the Head of the Commonwealth and helped set it up early in her reign. When she steps down, Prince Charles has been chosen by the members to become Head.

alanaw27 ... *Nice post & very accurately stated. Just one small thing to point out to those who don't know or are unsure. Jamaica, like all other Commonwealth countries, is **_ALREADY_** a free & **_independent, sovereign_** nation. It's merely shifting its **_type_** of government from a constitutional monarchy to a republican form of government. In other words, it's opting to change its unelected, "ceremonial" head of state to an elected one. It's similar to what several Commonwealth nations have also done.* 👍 👍 👍

I don't have much opinion on whether it's a good idea for Jamaica to change the head of state but have a strong opinion don't have a head of state that is also head of government. If you support a democratic republic in the true sense well you've had 50 years to vote on it but decided not to. In Australia we had a referendum on the matter in 1997 and I personally voted in favour but now I become a bit of a monarchist because I don't trust my politicians that much and can always change it at any point in time should the Queen of Australia actually do some bad thing rather than leaving us alone to govern ourselves.

Jamaica PM announcing his intention in William's face in front of the camera is such a big blow to the monarchy. It makes you wonder, what are these two royals doing in Jamaica when they are obviously not being wanted to be there? I hope William realizes the value of what his brother Harry, who is more popular outside England, can contribute together with his half-black American wife, Meghan, to his monarchy.

It could , depends what type of Republic they choose, currently the head of state is the governor general representing the queen and the head of government is the prime minister just like all other commonwealth countries that still retain the Queen of Jamaica in this case to be the head of state. If a Republic is chosen along the lines of China, Russia, US, Venezuela etc. where the head of state is also the head of government and therefore no oversight the risk of dictatorship is far higher.

@@markhirstwood4190 Having lived in England and Wales for a good 9 of my years on earth, I understand, but I hate it. Look. Bad shit happened during the empire to her coloured children. No question. But bad shit is par for the course in human history. The Romans colonised the whole of Europe, Britain included and they were not exactly polite and gentle about it. Human history is a catalog of atrocity. If we all go dredging up the past there will never be an end to the cycle of grievance and recrimination. That's why I hate this resentment based mode of relating to each other. Who does it help? What good does it do? We are literally still fighting dead people's disputes! It's brain dead. It's time to forgive, forget and focus on making the future better. That's the best apology we can ever have for the past. We all get just one life on this tiny wet pebble in the middle of nowhere. One life. From the birth of the universe until the end of time, this is the only innings you will ever have. I think if more people internalised that they would see the absurdity in having hang ups about things that are in the past that we can't go back and rewrite. Anyhoo. Peace on earth.✌🏿🕊

Danish Vikings in the north of England had Danelaw. (No surprises there as UK and Ireland are in Northern Europe along with Iceland, Sweden, Norway, Denmark and Lithuania. Anglo- Saxons in the south of England also came from Saxony in Germany. English is a Germanic language. The Welsh and the Cornish are probably the purest Celts. People like to say the English are not completely native to Britain but alot are mixed with Celt blood. I have a Saxon surname but 2 of my Great Grandparents were Welsh. The Roman's named Britain, 'Britannia' so no Celt, who wandered up from Spain anyway, is a true Briton. At least the English are in the continent they should be in. Jamaica is an independent country. How does dumping the monarchy help the country? Or is the Jamaican PM using the monarchy as a scapegoat for poor decisions on his part?

They have held back a massive deportation from England until the tour ends. Jamaicans need a visa to England and Queen is Head of State. 10 Billion reparation should be more. For all the free labour pain suffering branding humans with smoking iron even children. Raping removing teeth scarring chopping burning alive. You can’t put a dollar figure on that. We need schools universities state of the art training facilities. They have willed out millions to their generations earned from backs of our ancestors.
