One of my FAVOURITE ethnic cuisines, Jamaican food! Jamaicans are no joke in the kitchen as the two times I've been there, each trip I gained 11 or 12 pounds! Man if I marry a Jamaican woman, I'll be as big as a house!! LOVE IT down there, the nicest people ever are down in Jamaica and the food is to die for. Bravo Matt!

Stew peas looks very similar to a favourite Surinamese dish, brown beans and rice (bruine bonen). The pig's tails are standard, as well as chicken feet, pork ribs and salt beef. The only difference in the two dishes is that there is no coconut milk added to the brown beans and rice. Can also be served with toasted cassava flour (kwak). Great video!
@missdorr49473 жыл бұрын
Yes, for people who don't eat pork, we use salted beef in stew peas instead, and often it has multiple meats. So it sounds similar to your Surinamese dish...

Here in the United States, we become accustomed to using the canned and now, powdered coconut to cook stew peas, and let me say that it just don't come close. Now, we get real coconut to grate and get the milk the old fashioned way, and man, what a difference. I will never go back to cans or powder. There is nothing like fresh squeezed coconut milk in Jamaican cooking.
