Mississippi girl here! Cornbread & Red beans and rice with smoked pigtails and hamhock! We use the majority if the same seasonings too! I will add oxtails next time. Oxtails are so expensive in the states now. My grandmother said they use to be cheap.. ❤❤❤Thank you for the beautiful meal!😊
@amandairedale706
@amandairedale706 8 ай бұрын
Your grandmother is right. The oxtails were so cheap here in the UK, too. It's the famous television chefs you have to thank for that through their advertising of oxtail and saying how cheap it was. Then people learned to cook it, and because of the demand, it caused the price hike. My family were farmers and butchers. So I can remember how cheap it was as a small child (61 now). Back then, they ate the whole beast, and nothing went to waste. Watch……..Pig Tail and Chicken Foot will be the next thing in demand.

I’m Belizean(from Belize) we do this, a bit different, just beans n salted pigtail, seasoned the same coconut milk and all. At times add dumplings but about 1/4 size of the spinners, eat with white rice cooked in coconut milk, we call this stew beans and white rice! Our dishes are similar of course we do rice n beans which u call rice n peas 😃👍🏽🙏🏽❤

I know it was a reason why I absolutely love Jamaican food because in southern African American culture, depending on what region your family is from, my family is from North Carolina and we use the exact same ingredients and we call you guys hock…. Smoked ham hocks. 😁 Our coconut milk is usually buttermilk or half and half, some people use heaving whipping cream. I absolutely love you guys and Mommy too😁👍🏾👍🏾

Dear familie, im from Aruba and when i was a jong girl my mom use to cook the same very way as Deddy does. The onlis different was the dumpling . My mom made them with flour sugar and cornmeal. And my mom was born in St. eustatius up the eiland. But Deddy and Mommy are terrific in their ways of cooking and baking. So im all the time following youalls receipies cause my Mom has past over and im doing the baling and cooking as my did. This stew peas you just make me go back in time. Im living at the moment in Holland for over 45 years.

I’m a Georgia Peach, and I love your videos! Reminds me of my grandmother’s cooking! She was the best!!! Now, to be clear, black Americans traditionally added smoke meats like ham hocks, smoked neck bones, fat back , streak of lean to their vegetables like collards, turnips, and mustard greens to add seasoning to the pot. Because some people don’t eat pork, smoke turkey has been introduced! It’s all good!!!

This reminds me a little bit of "Cholent" in Ashkenazi Jewish cooking. For the meat we use flanken (Miami Short Ribs) and it is cooked for a long time (up to 24 hours) with mixed beans, barley, potatoes, onions, garlic, and spices. Some times people will serve it with hardboiled eggs or kishka. It is one of my favourites.

I’m from California and my mom was born and raised in Louisiana! This is our version of Red Beans and Rice 😊 we don’t add coconut milk because over in the states we didn’t have coconuts so i’m sure that’s how some of it changed over the years. But we add whatever meat you prefer. My family uses beef sausage in ours only (we don’t eat pork) but man the dumplings (spinners) take it to a wholeeeeeee different level! 💛

Oh wow I had stew pea for the first time when I went to Jamaica in May with my Deddy but it did not contain meat. I will have to follow this recipe exactly to cook like a jamaican.😊

Stew peas are good no matter how you cook them. Being vegetarian I've had them without all the meat with all the other seasonings and the spinners. Chope onions, potatoes and carrots still the stew peas are flavorful. Just good no matter what.

My Mema made her dumplings from scratch the same way as you prepared your spinners! She also added butter in them. (To this day I’ve never been able to find any chicken & dumplings that came close as yummy, not even mine ) ❤️🙏🤲
