I watched this video about 3-4 times. My pot is on the stove bubbling and it smells delicious. I actually had to run out and buy a bigger pot since I put a full pack of red peas (1lb) to soak. Thank you so much for making this video. Keep up the good work and thanks for helping the rest of us to be better cooks.

For non-pork eaters, smoked turkey neck can be used to flavor the soup also. The kidney beans can be pressure cooked if you don't have time to soak overnight.

I love using your recipe as a guide! It helps fill in the gaps form when my parents were teaching me to cook and gave me no sense of measurement, stove heat or time 😂. I think it’s interesting though, I never soaked the peas or any other beans before cooking them. I remember growing up watching my parents just throw the dry beans in the pot(not a pressure cooker, those were too expensive). I tried soaking once but didn’t see a difference in cooking time. 🤷🏿♀️

Thanks Fay for such a good video. I have been making all kinds of peas based soups lately and this confirms that I am on the right track. I usually throw in whatever I have in the house. I never tried the red beans soup but usually buy it. I will try it the way you have done it next time. I will miss out the pig tails if I am cooking for some of my friends, though.

For convenience pre-cooked, canned red peas (kidney beans) may also be used. I find that most brands of the product, which I have purchased, are of good quality retaining texture, colour and taste. Also for me, no red peas soup is complete without the inclusion of yellow yam, pumpkin, carrot, Irish potato and coconut milk

LOVED this video (the evident motherly easy demeanour of the host) and recipe! In comparison to the other red pea soup recipe videos, I noticed your version didn't include coconut milk, a scotch bonnet pepper (which you addressed) to name a couple of items. For faster cooking, I'm a fan of pressure cooker use and will also skip using the scotch bonnet in fear of it bursting. As a vegetarian, I'll leave out the meat and as a diabetic, I'll leave out the starchy vegetables. Otherwise I'm expecting my first time cooking my favourite soup (after Butternut Squash soup and New England Clam Chowder) to hopefully come out as good as the red pea soup I enjoy twice a week at two different Jamaican restaurants locally. Thanks for your wonderful video. Do you have a single daughter that I can marry so that I can enjoy this and other soups weekly? Lol...

Every island has their version of red bean soup. One staple in ours in Dominica is green fig (banana). Highly seasoned also with onions, garlic, chive and seasoning peppers. Also a bodat ma jacque (scotch bonnet) pepper is usually added whole, NOT cut up !!! The best thing to me in a soup from Dominica is the smoked pork/chicken. The is our "piece de résistance" and gives the soup a remarkable flavour.
@lolicemitchell82255 жыл бұрын
She never cut the scotch bonnet pepper up??? So what are you talking about...Watch the video First then comment on it
@Dom-yv4nq5 жыл бұрын
@@lolicemitchell8225 what are YOU talking about??? Did I mention anything about the lady cutting or not cutting a pepper??? I simply reiterated what she said about NOT cutting a scotch bonnet and putting it in whole and she used pepper sauce cuz she is "scared of the heat" sheesh. I was just adding my version of things.
@prickleb87964 жыл бұрын
@@Dom-yv4nq you are so right my dear lol . You did not say that she cut the pepper and put it in the pot . The pepper added whole to the pot gives the soup a nice aroma and flavour and thats why i add it too . If the pepper should burst in the pot while cooking the soup then that's where people who do not like too much pepper would have a big problem lol . But men be very careful around the kitchen ......as a caribbean man who love cooking and was priviledge enough to have been brought up by a mom who had instilled the culinary art in him , The first time I decided to cook dinner for my wife ....... i have not left the kitchen since lol . Her favourite question to me is " what niceness yu making for me today my love " lol .
