A friend of mine wanted me to make stew peas, and it made me think that I haven't found a GOOD Jamaican stew peas in the city just as yet. There are a lot of Caribbean restaurants for sure but I'm looking for food that takes me home.

Just following your journey in nyc. When last I was actively watching you were in Colombia. And now you walking around my hood in bedstuy. Recognized that stroll after the gym. Keep doing your thing. I’m sure to learn something about here through their eyes. We tend to live here and not take advantage of all the thing because we are stuck in our busy lives

I suggest you try Nickys restaurant Flatlands on 80th. The best curry goat so far, you can cut the meat with a plastic spoon. The curry gravy is not greasy. My Pops said there's a need place on the corner of Ralph and Foster Ave, said the cook real good.

Honestly the food in Jamaica just taste fresher, cleaner, better, hands down. I’ve lived in NYC for over 25 years and yes there are places where the flavor comes close but it’s never going to taste the same as back home. You’ll be chasing the authenticity and can’t quite find it. Best thing you’re doing is cooking it yourself!

I had the same experience in the City. It’s hard to find the authentic flavor that you expect from a Jamaican restaurant. You can find them in D.C. and of course Florida as you already know. I would open a market with the freshest foods instead of a restaurant. It’s way too much competition when it comes to restaurants. Location, advertisement and demand is the key. You really need a nice little spot in a cut away from all the other competitors. There aren’t enough Jamaican, Caribbean in general and African markets. That would be something you should consider opening.

Its true!! I cannot remember where but my friend took me, to a Jamaican restaurant in Brooklyn. It was horrible. It's the same thing here in Canada they cannot cook. I don't really eat out like that anymore . I cook my own damn meal. I love stew peas with pig tail and salt beef with white rice, not rice and peas. A few Jamaican restaurant that's still holding the name Jamaican restaurants and the food taste good in Canada. Dem can't cook. I'm not a chef but I can cook because like you I know great food.

If you want authentic home cooked Jamaican food you’re not going to get it from Simpsons. Thats more of an upscale Jamaican cuisine. Good Hope restaurant located on Flatbush and Ave J. Best stew peas. Also Golden Krust located on Church Ave 💯

Was in Chicago last week and found out that the Jamaican restaurants there don't like to serve white rice, at least the 3 that I stop at .Now if a Jamaican restaurant say they don't serve white rice the trap question for them should be what you serve with stew peas ? I ask this question at the last one and was told WE DONT COOK STEW PEAS!!! Jesus Christ ! Never thought I'd hear that in my life . Lady let me know Jamaicans hardly visits is mostly Black Americans . Al 3 restaurant food was excellent.

Jamaican food in Chicago mostly caters to Black Americans which is why it’s not authentic. I hardly ever ate Jamaican food when I lived there.
@paulthreeleven384
@paulthreeleven384 2 ай бұрын
@Jammin1288 Yes it's true that they cater to mostly Americans but that doesn't make the food not authentic . Of one of the restaurant I patronize the lady at the counter said I was the only Jamaican in there for a week. Ordered curry chicken white rice..We don't serve white rice I was told...Change order to jerk chicken rice and peas and I was served one of the best jerk chicken nicely plated seasoned good , fresh vegetables in separate plate and a slice of bread (Yankee dem spoil bad)

The shops are empty because the elder Jamaicans failed at Franchising. They did not understand Business… and allowed their greed to create a lack of trust from the US Market in terms of Quality Control & Food Safety. Golden Krust is the only successful Jamaican Franchise in the world. Florida has the best Jamaican food right now. NYC started using cheap ingredients.. rent is too high bro. There are a few hidden gems still. “Fisherman’s Cove” on Church Ave in Brooklyn has decent jerk chicken. “Rock Island and Grill” in Queens is Jamaica quality. Not familiar with The Bronx, but they should have some good spots there also.
