@prince Indeed! the changes were made in 2003. Quite frankly, I am embarrassed that a former ambassador does not know that pertinent information.I have lived in the UK from 2000 and there were several unnecessary drug related killings that were happening in the UK on a daily basis. unscrupulous individuals had murdered two young women in Birmingham which they blamed on Jamaicans (yardies) within 2/3 weeks after the murders the UK HS changed the law to Jamaican nationals acquiring a visa to visit the UK. This has been a requirement for nearly 20 years. What have the Ambassadors done to change this?

Does this woman even know what Jamaican immigrants go through in the UK to acquire a right to remain or citizenship. I have known of several instances whereby the UK HS/HO have deported a lot of individuals- removing parents from families(children), legally married couples separated etc Negotiate with the UK - this has been happening for over 20 years. She has no clue! Check the stats they targeted Jamaicans over a period of time & deported individuals without considering their rights. Same applies to how they treated windrush immigrants

Jamaicans are economic migrants , the worse association in many developed countries. They will choose to overstay their visas and hide from paperwork in order to remain in the UK , after breaking that law the British don't have to consider human rights . Its hard to migrate back and forth countries cause you'll never know if that employer would pay to bring you back or they're gonna hire a new immigrant.

Please don't throw your net so widely on everyone from Jamaica. Many Jamaicans in England are hard working individuals and have been working in this country for over fifty years but are still not able to travel and re-enter the UK freely. Even individuals that have been given Indefinite Leave to Remain. Jamaicans are being treated differently/like criminals, from all other countries, even when they are law abiding citizens. It would be great if our new King would rectify this situation. Children born in England from Jamaican parents are treated as criminals just walking home from school, who is responsible for that? Jamaicans are still being supportive to England with the new cohort of Nurses leaving Jamaican sick/disabled to care for the English people. The Jamaican parliamentary officers are not doing anything to represent the Jamaican Nationals in England.

From 2003 Jamaicans and Guyanese were required to get a visa in order to gain entry into the UK. The UK government said the main reason were too many drugs were being trafficked in to the country which created havoc . Guyanese no longer need a visa to gain entry as of November. Guyana has oil now, so the UK is looking to benefit.

My parents are Jamaican. I was born in the UK and know the reason why Jamaicans are unfairly marginalised. Changes came about in the early 90s. There were many Jamaicans travelling back and forth from Jamaica to the UK. There was a massive inrease in crime during the 90s which was related to drugs and shootings. The prisons became very full with gangs called Jamaican Yardies. This was a big issue. The UK government changed the law in the 90s to stop Jamaicans coming into the country. That's why theu introduced a visa. It is totally unfair that hard working, respectable Jamaicans can't visit the UK because of a number of gang members who have created mayhem. Happy to give you more feedback if you need it.

Jamaicans were allowed to enter the UK without visas prior to 2003. Britain imposed a visa restriction on Jamaica in 2003, arguing that it was an immigration measure. Many Jamaicans were coming in when it was visa free but due to bad behaviour of a few, the UK government decided to impose a visa restriction on all Jamaicans.

When the ban was imposed, the leader of foreign affairs at the time and present; was and is suppose to negotiate with the UK to lift the ban. That is the problem. Most politicians aren't and weren't doing their jobs. Other countries got their names off the list, so should we.

Whatever reason given by the UK government for this disgraceful decision just know that it is the fault of the Jamaican government to allow thr continued disrespect and disregard for the well earned rights of Jamaican people to access the land. When Jamaican soldiers came ithe thier thousands to fight in the war they were welcomed to do so. When the war ended 30,000 were swiftly sent back to Jamaica to pick up the pieces. Many lost thier lives for the UK. Britain is more than happy to take all the doctors and nurses from Jamaica and any other skilled worker. We need to stop allowing ourselves to used exploited and discarded.

The reason for visa is because of the amount of drugs and drug mules that was coming in the UK Jamaica was blamed for "Yardies" Nigeria was blamed for fraud and China was blamed for counterfeit goods so these countries had to have restrictions because the UK could not manage the influx of people from thses places, Jamaicans can stay in the UK for 180 days British citizens can only go to Jamaica for 90 days back in the days an invitation letter was required up into 2000s the Jamaican High commission employees also could of pushed harder for Jamaican Citizens too

The reason they stated we needed a visa is because of drug related incidents dating back for more than 15 years now times have changed and it seems that most drug trafficking are also highlighted from other countries of interest and they don't need a visa to enter the UK. It is about time Jamaica confront UK for a change in this law because everyone else from anywhere else seems to can just come to tje UK. At the time the UK was on the move to build an EU state so Jamaicas involvment wud certainly not needed. This invitation to three countries with free visa access as a result of the 2017 referendum where the British people voted to discontineued as EU member. I’m a Jamaican born with British citizenship and it is very sad to see that Jamaica is the only country that needs a visa on that list … It’s like a message is being sent. There has to be many contributing factors to such decision but it is for the Jamaican government to get to the bottom of why Jamaica is the only country being singled out???… What is Baroness Scotlan in the Jamaica High Commission in London and Kamina Jonson-Smith minister of foreign affairs in Jamaica … what are they both actually doing????… NOTHING AND IT IS EVIDENT. Many Jamaicans come here and work very hard to make things better for themself and their family back home in Jamaica .. BUT…then there are the ones with the LAZY QUICK MONEY MINDSET … WHO COME HERE AND GO STRAIGHT INTO HUSTLING AND I FEEL THAT IS ONE OF THE BIG CONTRIBUTING FACTOR AS TO WHY JAMAICA IS BEING SINGLED OUT… bcoz many associate hustling with Jamaican men .. the ole idlers them in the streets. Many men from other Caribbean countries stay in their homes when they are off work but not those Jamaican street men .. they like to hang out in bundles at barbershop or food shop especially when the sun is out while making pure bag of noise in the ppl them country .. and a call to every woman that they see…. IT IS THE BEHAVIOUR OF A FEW CARELESS UNRULY PEOPLE THAT IS CAUSING THE MAJORITY TO BE PENALISED.

British don't need Visa for Jamaica. India don't need a Visa for Jamaica. China don't need a Visa for Jamaica. Jamaica's problem is that it is dependent on British tourism. While Britain isn't dependent on Jamaica anymore. Well dependent on the minerals (bauxite), and dependent on the profits from all the Western owned hotels. Jamaica needs to work with the Russians, Chinese & Cubans, get full independence from the West, and start drilling the oil in the Walton-Morant block (2.4 billion barrels - essentially the same as the entire UK's share of the North sea).

Interestingly......the question is what are they doing about the ongoing underlying issue?? Do not make excuses. The Jamaican high commission is a disaster. Always has been. How many Jamaicans are employed as employees in the high commission??..She needs to hold herself accountable. Don't do a job for the sake of it, do it because you care. Does she have any relatives separated as a result of the racism & immigration like my children and their father. It is not acceptable. Let's be honest. It's not a today issue. It's been ongoing for years. Let's see some action, tired of words.

No one is above a mistake … may be she just got the date mixed up . Some spoilt it for others and it’s the truth even though it hurts . Been here for nearly forty years now and can attest to that. Some to advantage of the simplicity in the country and how docile the people can be forgetting that it will affect others . Real talk

Who or where are those guns or weapons coming from to enter Jamaica etc. Also the hard drugs. Because they poor cant afford many things. They need to stop making same Black countries as scapegoats. The reputation of Jamaicans abroad has taken a serious hit because of the bad behavior. The decent majority is suffering for the bad minority. In the 1960’s in the US the moment you opened your mouth and said you are from Jamaica, you were certain to get many jobs. Now we are associated in some circles with murders and drug dealing. Look at the current crime rate in Jamaica. Why would any country want to welcome us? We need to clean up our own country before we look to other countries at accepting us.

I am from the uk and find it absolutely disgusting Jamaica is the only country requiring a visa to come to the UK!! WHY WHY!! OK so some may have overstayed whilst here and not given there status in the UK. We have officials, god knows how many departments to deal with the situation re overstaying time in the UK. We have more than enough illegal immigrants in this country that are otherwise than Jamaican!! It is about time this issue regarding a visa requirement by Jamaicans is dealt with fairly and effectively!! The cost is absurd never mind all the other things they have to go through. I have visited Jamaica twice and am going back for Xmas I love Jamaica. And for all those wanting to visit the UK I sincerely hope things change and this visa requirement for the UK is abolished.. Freedom of movement and all that human rights etc!! This topic infuriates me!!

Jamaicans needing a visa to enter the UK had nothing to do with Jamaicans overstaying in the country. This happened sometime during the 90s and Jamaica was one of a number of black commonwealth member countries that was included in this visa requirement for entry. Britain realised they could get cheaper labour force from European country-state being a member of the European Union. They had always turned a blind eye to people overstaying in the country because it was a good source of cheap labour but with the influx of people from Romania, Poland....Portugal... poor white countries that were doing these same cheap labour jobs like the blacks from Africa and the Caribbean they decided to ristrict the peoples coming from those countries. When they realise the cost of these white Europeans coming and getting benefits like free housing, medical and all the social benefits that were available they decide it was not worth it so they opted to exit or better known as brexit the EU. SO...now they are giving visa-free status to some of these countries to return to Britain but Jamaicans gi to much dam trouble soh dem noh want dem back in ya.
