@prince Indeed! the changes were made in 2003. Quite frankly, I am embarrassed that a former ambassador does not know that pertinent information.I have lived in the UK from 2000 and there were several unnecessary drug related killings that were happening in the UK on a daily basis. unscrupulous individuals had murdered two young women in Birmingham which they blamed on Jamaicans (yardies) within 2/3 weeks after the murders the UK HS changed the law to Jamaican nationals acquiring a visa to visit the UK. They will choose to overstay their visas and hide from paperwork in order to remain in the UK , after breaking that law the British don't have to consider human rights . Many Jamaicans in England are hard working individuals and have been working in this country for over fifty years but are still not able to travel and re-enter the UK freely. Even individuals that have been given Indefinite Leave to Remain. Jamaicans are being treated differently/like criminals, from all other countries, even when they are law abiding citizens. It would be great if our new King would rectify this situation. Children born in England from Jamaican parents are treated as criminals just walking home from school, who is responsible for that? Jamaicans are still being supportive to England with the new cohort of Nurses leaving Jamaican sick/disabled to care for the English people. My parents are Jamaican. I was born in the UK and know the reason why Jamaicans are unfairly marginalised. Changes came about in the early 90s. There were many Jamaicans travelling back and forth from Jamaica to the UK. There was a massive inrease in crime during the 90s which was related to drugs and shootings. The prisons became very full with gangs called Jamaican Yardies. This was a big issue. The UK government changed the law in the 90s to stop Jamaicans coming into the country. That's why theu introduced a visa. It is totally unfair that hard working, respectable Jamaicans can't visit the UK because of a number of gang members who have created mayhem. Am just saying , the talk is Jamaicans are a threat to there communities (states). But in reality they are far more worse than these so call "Dons" so to speak. 2.5 million people , 250 years of slavery , oppression ; THAT CANNOT BE CUSHIONED. It's just a change of strategies to oppress Jamaicans.

I am from the uk and find it absolutely disgusting Jamaica is the only country requiring a visa to come to the UK!! WHY WHY!! OK so some may have overstayed whilst here and not given there status in the UK. We have officials, god knows how many departments to deal with the situation re overstaying time in the UK. We have more than enough illegal immigrants in this country that are otherwise than Jamaican!! It is about time this issue regarding a visa requirement by Jamaicans is dealt with fairly and effectively!! The cost is absurd never mind all the other things they have to go through. I have visited Jamaica twice and am going back for Xmas I love Jamaica. And for all those wanting to visit the UK I sincerely hope things change and this visa requirement for the UK is abolished.. Freedom of movement and all that human rights etc!! This topic infuriates me!!

Jamaicans needing a visa to enter the UK had nothing to do with Jamaicans overstaying in the country. This happened sometime during the 90s and Jamaica was one of a number of black commonwealth member countries that was included in this visa requirement for entry. Britain realised they could get cheaper labour force from European country-state being a member of the European Union. They had always turned a blind eye to people overstaying in the country because it was a good source of cheap labour but with the influx of people from Romania, Poland....Portugal... poor white countries that were doing these same cheap labour jobs like the blacks from Africa and the Caribbean they decided to ristrict the peoples coming from those countries. When they realise the cost of these white Europeans coming and getting benefits like free housing, medical and all the social benefits that were available they decide it was not worth it so they opted to exit or better known as brexit the EU. SO...now they are giving visa-free status to some of these countries to return to Britain but Jamaicans gi to much dam trouble soh dem noh want dem back in ya.
