JAMAICA WITH IRIE

Can you image wild nature with a touch of luxury? This would be YS Falls in St. Elizabeth, Jamaica! There are over 100 waterfalls in Jamaica, and with this Jamaica Video Guide episode we
shall visit YS Falls park, which was a well kept secret for many years, until it opened its doors to the visitors in 1992. YS Falls tour is available mainly from Montego Bay, Negril and Treasure Beach.
And yes, this is the place where you can do YS Falls Zipline Canopy Tour over the waterfalls.

Thomas Phillip Lecky, known as T.P. Lecky (1904-1994), was a Jamaican scientist who developed several new breeds of cattle. Lecky is known as one of Jamaica's earliest environmentalists, and a strong advocate for the conservation of hillsides.[1] His research in cattle breeding led to the development of three breeds suited the tropical climate: Jamaica Hope, Jamaica Red, and Jamaica Black. Jamaica Hope was the first breed of cattle indigenous to Jamaica. He is remembered as the Father of the Jamaican Dairy Industry.[1]

@@Lifestylewithjada , this is good to know. As a Jamaican (from St. Ann) living in the States for 38+ years, I have been back home quite often. But I usually come in the Summer. Over the past 10 years or so, I noticed that it is "busier" and "more expensive" coming down in the Summer. I was surprised by that as I expect that would be the least busy and least expensive time to visit. Probably won't change for me though, as my two long breaks from work (where I don't have to use up extra vacation days) are in the Summer and in the Winter...go figure...LOL

There are many other attractions in the surrounding area. You can buy pepper shrimps at middle quarters nearby. Black river safari is close by. Maroon town and appleton rum tours 10 minutes drive. There are beautiful rain forests in the mountain communities of Beth Salem,Aberdeen, Bagdale mountain and other neighboring communities. There are even a few blue holes and caves leading to Trelawney. I believe its time for these communities to be included in what tourist experience in Jamaican. I live in a community where the majority are Scottish descendants. There is so much history and culture in rural Jamaica.
@JAMAICAWITHIRIE
@JAMAICAWITHIRIE 3 жыл бұрын
Yes, absolutely! I love the area! Do you know about the origins of YS name? Some say it comes from gaelic "wyess" meaning winding, but when trying to check this info - couldn't find any word with such meaning in Scottish gaelic, nor in Irish. There is also a theory, that YS comes from the last names of John Yates and Richard Scott, but they were never the owners of the place, so it makes no sense. Maybe as a person living in the area - you've heard of some other theories that have proof of the origins of the name by any chance?

I'm from the other Rock....Newfoundland. We have a long history with Jamaica - sugar, rum, molasses, salt fish trade, etc. etc. People here eat salt fish with a hard bread cake while in Jamaica saltfish is eaten with ackee. In both cases it's a signature dish. Although we are miles and miles apart we have many other similarities. People here sometimes drop the 'h' at the beginning of a word and add one when the word begins with a vowel. This is very common here in the fishing outports scattering our coastline. Folks here have a great sense of humour as do Jamaicans. We both are colloquially called the 'Rock". And we love to drink Rum. I have been there over 200 times and can attest to Jamaica's beauty and lovely people.

Selling Jamaica? Interesting subject indeed. I have different blogs on this channel to cover all aspects of Jamaica to present it in the most objective way possible. The one-dimensional-personal blogs are important to foreigners who wish to relocate to Jamaica and wonder what it's like for a foreigner to live there and surprisingly - these they are the ones that attract most views... KZbin works in a weird way, but not much we can do about it.

@@JAMAICAWITHIRIE My comment is 3-months after the others on this. I noticed "MeSandz" didn't respond, but I "interpreted" his / her Statement NOT as you "trying" to "sell" Jamaica from an non objective way...but that you are doing such an AMAZING job with the "VLOGS" (I don't understand "blog" in the comments above), they are just "selling Jamaica" all on their own... I have watched ALL of your VLOGS since I "discovered" you in early JANUARY, and I can tell you, without you trying to do so, you are "selling Jamaica"...but in a POSITIVE light (even when you talk about the not so positive things...they are positive)....and THAT "Mi Dear" (as Jamaicans would say) is a VERY VERY GOOD THING

I grew up in Jamaica, and lived in St. Elizabeth but never knew about YS Fall until i visited in 2015. It's a breathtakenly beautiful place and definately a place of interest to visit, especially for families outings and day tripers. Thanks for showcasing Jamaica's beautiful landscape for the world to see and visit.

Great video Irina. Please do Konoko Falls on the hill overlooking Ocho Rios. It has a history of the Tiano Indians with outdoor sculpture garden, art and wedding reception area.
