Can't believe they thought the unrealistic part was having to cut your hair with scissors, what else are you supposed to do if you have no money?
@buskergirl2 жыл бұрын
What else do they cut hair with anyway..? Isn't it the only way..? Unless you want to shave it all off.
@nicosmind32 жыл бұрын
I think the logic was that with scissors you have to have skill, and a specific hairstyle to aim for. It's something easily messed up. But if you shave your head (and everyone in the UK can afford a cheap pair of clippers, I once got a cheap beard trimmer out of Argus for a fiver) it takes no skill, practice or training. It's a simple haircut anyone can do. So why have a first timer cut your hair? But they didn't take into account how nieve young people can be. Both James and his mate made an assumption
@Jonesy..2 жыл бұрын
@@nicosmind3 but home cutting your hair with scissors is pretty common though, I've had family cut my hair with scissors, I've cut my own hair with scissors, not everyone wants it all shaved off, and it's really not *that* difficult (obviously it would be nicer if a hairdresser did it, but again, that's expensive)
@nicosmind32 жыл бұрын
@@Jonesy.. If it's someone that's never done it before, then a skin head is much easier than creating any shape, or neatening it up. Sure with practice it's not that difficult, but that's not the case here. The girl can't get experience then travel back in time, it's her first haircut. Btw I've had my hair cut multiple times at home myself, I know it's very common, loads of people do it, but you can still get dirt cheap electric shavers anywhere. Even saving a pound a week you can buy a half decent pair in no time. The assertion that only the rich can afford clippers is absurd
@Jonesy..2 жыл бұрын
@@nicosmind3 how is she supposed to get experience without cutting hair un-experienced? Also I don't think anyone is saying clippers are expensive, but they do offer a limited amount of hairstyles. Anyways, the only thing I'm really arguing is that it was absurd to say that a couple of young people cutting hair at home with scissors is unrealistic 😅

So funny thing, actually there is no evidence for conventional wisdom about how liars act in general. I only mention this because as a forensic examiner for SA it's a huge issue when people think they can "tell" if a victim is lying or not, when in fact the neurobiology of trauma might make her act quite odd, stone faced, hysterical, or any other number of behaviors. Here in the US one out of every ten people put on death row on conventional belief like that is found to be innocent, which is quite horrible. You can't "tell" if someone is lying. Only the DNA evidence tells the truth. Not an insult, just something important to mention when it comes to experience and telling if someone is lying. It just never stacks up to scientific rigor very well.

The sheer reality gap of people with money - my mother cut my entire family's (familys'?) hair since I can remember. We were poor, we got f*cked over in the recession. Then it just seemed pointless to spend the money after that. I went to a hairdresser for the first time when I was 19. I think she would still cut my brother's hair sometimes into his late 20's, she did my Dad's hair until he passed away. She still cuts her own hair.

Plus, scissors could be considered the "posh" option, because they require skill to use properly and time to get a good result. I had both my mum cut my hair (usually in 30 - 45 minutes), an affordable hairdresser (20 minutes) and a more expensive barber (1 hour) and all of them used scissors on me and when I wanted something shorter, all of them would use a trimmer on the sides and back. Quality-wise, I got what I paid for.
