The existence of James Acaster proves that a Bob Mortimer exists in every generation and that their purpose is to drive David Mitchell insane

Although the existence of two Mortimer-Acasters **at the same time** means there is an over-abundance........ .....meaning there will inevitably have to be a period of darkness and misery and lack-of-mortimer-acasters to balance things out. I fear for the people in that future time.

The wit of James is beyond belief in this segment. Within the range of no mare than fortyfive seconds he unleashes no less than THREE unbelievably funny remarks; at 1:54 he says "seven swans a-swimming", soon after comes "not treading water" and the absolutely hilarious retort to Lily, who implies that the whole situation is ridiculous, but in James' reply he subtly means that the ridiculousness was that he also couldn't get it for Christmas! Absolutely brilliant! 😂

This wouldn't have been a big deal when I was a kid, if my sister had an album I liked or vice versa we'd just copy the CD to a cassette and each have a copy.
@kevinw712 Жыл бұрын
tbf, the exact same thing could've happened in this instance. the first Spice Girls album was what, like 96 or 97? A CD then was perfectly capable by a typical household of being able to copy it to cassette at least. I always thought the story was too well told to be a lie (even considering James' talents) but it does make me wonder what the father was thinking. like was it entirely about the money? I mean I was born in 76 and my family definitely grew up fairly poor (we were on food stamps multiple times), but a brand new CD back then would've been like $20 at most. surely each kid was getting moderately more than $20 worth of presents. Even if it was the only one he'd be getting that year, James made it clear how badly he wanted it.

could someone explain the joke at 1:11. "who's your friend. big ears?"
@jeremyfletcher780411 ай бұрын
I'm Canadian, so I might be totally off, but.. this is what I think. Noddy Holder is the older gentleman on the other team, he was a rocker in the 80's and played in a band called Slade. He also once was invited to join AC/DC, so he was a pretty big deal back then. Noddy also was a kids cartoon about an elf looking kid who lived in a strange British small town, and his best friend was a guy called Big Ears. So, its a poke at Noddy comparing him to the cartoon character. Also, to add, earlier in the show Lee had said "who's your friend, big ears?" joking to Noddy, James having just stolen Lee's "Really, Really" joke, did a reference joke, back to Lee's earlier "Noddy" joke.

@boneeque Жыл бұрын
That's a lot of blame to put on the father when you don't know the whole story. The album could've been sold out at that time, and why do you think he chose his sister because she was female? It could be because she was the oldest, the youngest or because she asked for it first. He didn't share this story for you to blame his father, he shared it because it was interesting and he didn't share everything, so don't jump to conclusions.

He obviously was upset about it at the time but has grown out of it and saw the funny side, doesn't mean it wasn't unfair.
