I love the earth worm! Hilarious! Except the 'how can I see if I'm blind?' I'm blind myself and we... don't do that, well not unless we're being deliberately awkward... which I guess earthworm is so... I'll give him a pass haha.

I still remember my fourth Christmas. There was me, having just opened my brand new bright red Panasonic walkman, and my brand new copy of this audio drama, the one with the huge great peach on the cover. It was my first encounter with both the book (which I later read in full), and the sorcerer's apprentice (which my mum recognised as the theme tune). I don't believe that now, over 30 years later, I get to hear this again! thanks for the upload!

So here's a question. The Minpins. I know there are at least two versions from the 90s of audiobooks: One which has just narration, sound effects and Schostakovich music, and the other that has a full cast including Joss Ackland. Any chance those might be popping up on here?

This is a tricky review this time. A faithful adaptation, but I'm not sure if the Sorcerer's Apprentice theme works; it lacks the emphasis the story tells; adventuring with unusual but loyal friends and learning courage and self-belief. I thought James was lazily voiced; the actress sounds too boring and robotic, she lacks inflection on her lines. I also thought the Old Man and the Grasshopper's voices were quite annoying what with the former's occasional popping his lips between lines and the latter's deliveries kept sounding like he was hiccuping between takes, sounding too much like Goofy when he laughs. The other insects, especially the aunts, were voiced well. The narration was believable, but all in all I think they should have had an actual child to voice James, that way it would have sounded more realistic. I apologise for the negative review, but these are my thoughts on it. Again, there are several pieces I like - the ones I previously mentioned and the setting of the ocean and New York.

Are you sure James is being played by a woman? I was under the impression it was a child, and hence the stilted delivery. Funny how different things hit different people, I liked the old man's voice haha. Same fellah was Grandpa Joe in Charlie and the Chocolate Factory.
@foxteen8721
@foxteen8721 3 жыл бұрын
@@dan4lau Yeah, there is a site with the list of the tapes where it says James is played by Maggie Peacock. Yes I recognised the Old Man as Grandpa Joe, he's a good actor in fairness I just found his popping annoying.
@dan4lau
@dan4lau 3 жыл бұрын
@@foxteen8721 Ah... surprising then that he sounds so robotic... James I mean. I think the popping thing is a marmite thing, love it or hate it heh. Funny thing, I'm sure I recognize the Grandpa Joe actor from somewhere else as well, but can't place him.
