My own interpretation of this is that he's calling out to God, that's probably why he was constantly looking up in the video. Plus the lyrics just make so much more sense with this in mind. Like the lyrics "It's you I'm forever indebted to, never been the same since the day that I met you" pertains to this. Also i watched an interview with james where he said that he actually had a baby on the way, but unfortunately it didn't work out. So the music video of emily is based on a true story i think. James arthurs girlfriend actually found out she was pregnant and unfortunately lost the baby. He had wrote emily for the baby before she sadlt lost it. But he and management thought it was too mich of an amazing song to not release it. Therefore he released it and hence why the official video (not the typewriting one) interpets this.. James Arthur is amazing, so clever yet so underated xx
