James Baroud Evasion Evo Roof Top Tent Walk Around Review

A walk around of my James Baroud Evasion Evo Roof Top Tent mounted on my Toyota Land Cruiser 200 Series.
I bought this tent in 2020 and have well over 100 nights in it. It is a great upgrade from my previous ARB Simpson III fold out RTT.

Except the part where he unlatches the fronts first…JB recommends rear latches first then fronts. There’s several videos on this as well. Nice try though

Any thoughts as to the evo vs the space?

The space gives a little less space at the 'wedge' portion of the tent because of its hybrid clamshell design. I think the Evasion does a better job because you get the full interior space with nearly the same amount of setup/takedown effort.

Garrett, I have the Evasion XL. Mine is terribly difficult to close. I must have a warranty issue. my canvas is beginning to have holes in it and I've only opened it 10 times. Hopefully, their warranty stands strong.

Sorry to hear that! My gas struts are a bit more worn in than yours it sounds like so the tent compresses down fairly easily. Its well broken in for sure. As for the holes appearing in the fabric, that sounds strange. My tent fabric is still bullet proof after all the time spent in the sun, wind, snow and rain I'm amazed at how well its holding up. Hopefully they can sort it out for you!

How well does it block out the light for those who like to sleep longer?

It does a good job for sure. I also like to sleep in and never had a problem with too much light coming in

Did you use the Frontrunner tent mount feet? If not what did you use to mount that thing? Nice setup brotha

I did! I used the Front Runner quick disconnect tent mount feet kit. It took some time to get all 4 feet aligned but once it it aligned, it makes it super easy to take the tent on and off.

I have an Evasion Medium on top of a Slimline II front runner rack. I want to add a 270 Falcon Awning with the tunnel. What type of awning do you have?

I have the Overland Vehicle Systems 270LT awning mounted on the passenger side. It does wrap all the way around the rear of the vehicle and the open hatch of the Land Cruiser doesn't interfere with the awning too much. Here is the link for the awning from our website: evergreenoffroad.com/products/overland-vehicle-systems-nomadic-270-lt-awning-passenger-side?_pos=3&_sid=185ffdc7a&_ss=r The Slimline II rack sits higher than a lot of other racks so you might be able to replicate this setup. Sometimes it is safer to go with a 180-degree awning if you have an SUV because the open hatch can rub against the awning arms.
