My son and I went to visit his gravesite and paid our respects. I absolutely loved him in the Dukes and Andy Griffith. He could play guitar , act direct and paint. What an amazing man. A hero soldier too. Thank you James Best for making us smile.

Ive met em twice, and he use to teach art at U.C.F. just below my apartment in Orlando. He was a talented fella, and im glad i had the opportunity to see some of his wonderful pieces of artwork. Thanks for the memories Jimmy. See ya on the other side.

I was raised rthe next town over from hickory and still live there today . I would absolutely love to meet Mr . Best . He was a childhood hero of mine god how i miss the 80s and the duke boys . Him and Flash in the cop car was the best when he would say into the CB radio ( talking to bosshog) ok my lil fat buddy! Hahah

I saw "The Dukes of Hazzard Reunion" just this morning. Never saw it before, and i watched that show almost religiously for years in the 80's. It's amazing how he's aged! Wow! Rosco is so cool! What a great character! Even in that reunion show, he still hadn't lost a step. Wonder if they'll do another reunion show. James is up there in age, Denver Pyle has passed, and Catherine, John and Tom are nearing their 60's. Don't know how old the actors who played "Cooter" and "Enos" are.

I loved it on The Dukes of Hazzard when Rosco would chase Bo and Luke, he'd say, oh, I love it I love it, hot pursuit, buckle up for safety Flash, but Rosco never could quite catch the duke boys because the General Lee was just too fast for Rosco, but still, Rosco was awesome and so funny. :)

One of my favorite roles that he played was the sleazy boyfriend in an episode of "Alfred Hitchcock Presents," named "The Jar." That thing gave me nightmares for years after seeing it as child. Besides James Best, the cast included Jane Darwell (Ma Joad in "The Grapes of Wrath"), Collin Wilcox (Mayella in "To Kill a Mockingbird"), William Marshall (Peewee's "King of Cartoons"), Jocelyn Brando, Slim Pickens, Billy Barty, and television favorites Pat Buttram and Jim Lindsey.

Wait until you are HIS AGE and ask yourself that question, you have no idea what health problems he might have that keeps him from active exercise, one day you will find out what you are too young and dumb to know now. ONE THING FOR SURE, HE HAS MORE TALENT AND BRAINS THAN YOU WILL EVER HAVE! PLUS HE IS/WAS A TRULY NICE GUY. This interview says 2010 so James was 83 years old and I doubt you will look that good at 83 IF YOU LIVE THAT LONG!!!

Best role I saw him play was Carter in Shenandoah. Befriended Charlie Anderson's (Jimmie Stewart) kid Boy Anderson. At a campfire, eating Lord knows what. Boy Anderson: What is this? Carter: That ain't nothing your mama ever served at the table. I hear down in Vicksburg they eating rats. Great line from James Best. A scene or 2 later, he takes a bullet to the head on some battlefield. One of so many sad moments of the movie.
