I love the James Bond Franchise and everyone in it. I also have the biggest respect for Barbara Broccoli & Michael G Wilson but I do feel it's time we got some news, especially positive news. This is an open video letter to Eon Productions.

Sadly, I don't trust that EON genuinely cares about the "fan community" anymore. I think they're zeroed in on catering to "modern audiences," i.e. Gen-Z'ers who have probably never seen a Bond film or have, and find him "problematic." EON already threw these folks a bone by symbolically killing Bond's nature (by physically killing him). What more proof does one need that they're over it than arbitrarily killing our hero without remorse. There's no other reason to do it. As a massive Bond fan, I'd rather have no news than something that Bond was never meant to be...that which I believe is coming all too soon.

To be honest, I kinda feel for EON. You really can't be beholden to fans, especially when you're running a major franchise like Bond that's survived as long as it has by constantly adapting and changing (all while still telling fundamentally the same sort of stories about fundamentally the same character incidentally). I've read so many different opinions about what the future of Bond should be by fans on KZbin comments alone, and there's really not a consensus about what a Bond film should be. Some think the next film should be more 'fun', others think it should go back to basics and be grittier like Casino Royale. Some want strict adaptations of Fleming set in the 50s, others want Bond modern. I've even seen comments wanting an adaptation of one of the video games. If EON did listen to fans, what exactly would they get out of this? Very little I suspect. I doubt they ever listened to fans and are wise not to. From what I've read about the producers they certainly care about this character. They seem to make a conscious effort to not only make these films cinematic but have one foot in the door with the original Fleming material. That's extraordinary. I have no doubt they understand Bond far more than any of us do, especially when it comes to crafting stories with this character. It's simply gotten to the point now where even killing off one version of the character (which, incidentally, seems to have been done in order to end his particular story and give the new Bond a fresh start) isn't a nail in the coffin. Not saying I liked killing Craig's Bond off, but that's where we're at.

It does baffle me when people make out the ending of NTTD means you can't do another film. We're in an era where multiple continuities [such as Kingsman having an 'historical' spin off], reboots and remakes are very common [even having a Spiderman film released shortly after NTTD where the 3 continuities characters cross over]. Bond itself had a hard reboot with Casino Royale which wasn't connected with the previous 20 films and you can easily do it again [like how Robert Pattinson's 'The Batman' is an origin story but very different from Batman Begins with no connection to any previous Batman film]. Goldeneye was arguably a 'soft' reboot as only Desmond's Q returned and Hugh Jackman [Deadpool 3] and Zoe Saldana [Guardian's 3] have returned to there parts despite dying previously. If anything, the 'clean slate' of Bond 26 should make it easier for it to pick up a general audience [often the main motive of rebooting the continuity like Star Trek 2009] so I don't see it as a problem at all. Really, finding the best tone and story line is the harder task [especially as rival Mission Impossible underperformed this year despite rave reviews].

For Bond 26 I would like to see: The gunbarrel at the beginning. Naomie Harris, Wishaw, Finnes and kinnear to return. M scenes should be straight to the point just like classic Bond. Q scenes should have people in the background testing gadgets and Bond being cheeky. Moneypenny scenes to be romantic with a more modern approach. Still have it set in the modern day.

I think we're in for a long wait whatever happens. From what little Eon has said, Bond 26 is not in pre-production [despite what tabloid nonsense might suggest] and there in no rush to start. But if they sell up [maybe to Amazon], a new production team [writers etc] will need to be hired [Disney bought LucasFilm's in 2012 but didn't release the first movie until 2015] so any post-sale projects wouldn't be swift in coming either.

+ eon has 4 years now to come up with a new ide, bond 25 was first offical to release in nov, 2019, then feb 2020, but after sneakprewiev in jan -20,, audiens did not like it, and some change was planed, then covid hit real hard, and mgm lost more money, put out more money, 5 delays later it was to come out oct 2021, so stop give hope to babs and the love u give her, she dont give a shit about u and james bond as long craig is not in it.

The idea that they would be doing pre-production on the next film when the pervious one isn't out yet makes no sense, especially as wasn't going to be a sequel to NTTD or anything. They moved the release date from Feb 2020 to April 2020 during 2019 and then postponed it due to Covid in March 2020. The stories of 'bad test screenings+ reshoots' has been debunked, particularly as the director said the film was 'locked' and ready to be released by March 2020 when Covid hit as the actors were already doing publicity interviews etc [and there is certainly no evidence of re-shoots or changes during the pandemic].

For me personally, the original and classic Bond franchise ended with Brosnans era. With Craig they started a slight reboot, which has very little to do with what Bond was before and what Fleming wanted, it's more like Bond 2.0. For me, they never felt like Bond movies, more like Bourne. While everybody was going crazy over Craig, I disliked him and his movies from the very beginning because they made everything suited for the modern audiences and changed the formula too radically. So I have little hope they will return to the original Bond.

I am kind of glad that Amazon/Eon hasn't gone down the 'spin off' route as yet as while I'd hope for something of the quality of Reacher, it would also be easily just to slap the Bond licence on a generic action show [like the forgettable Bourne Series 'Treadstone'] and the MCU+Star Wars doing loads of TV shows and films hasn't helped either brand recently [at least 'Road to a Million being a reality show is clearly non-canon].

2:02 Negativity is to be expected. The character is literally dead. A sixty one year old franchise has a dead hero. Star Wars fans post comments online like "Star Wars is dead" because they dislike Disney's handling of the franchise but it's still active. Star Wars is not based around one main character. The James Bond franchise, however, *is based around one main character* and the character is deceased so I don't see how Bond 26 will resolve that fact in a credible way. Any reboot means Craig's Bond's death was meaningless or not as significant as fans were led to believe. If Bond dies in Bond 25 but alive in Bond 26... isn't that kinda silly? It's a narrative hole Eon Productions has found itself in and it was completely unnecessary. A problem of their own making. I'm not excited to see Barbara Broccoli or MG Wilson or Christopher Nolan (if he is hired to write and direct) do the inevitable press interviews and try to explain why Bond is alive in Bond 26. A hollow reboot is cynical. Most casual film goers won't care because it's a new Bond film and the hype will get them to see it but some long term fans may not be that excited by the current state of the franchise and where it's heading. Fans are entitled to complain or become less interested in the franchise when you (Eon) kill off the hero. Whether or not Eon care, who knows! If the films continue to make money that's all that matters, I guess.

Henry Cavill would be the perfect 007. He is my number one casting choice for Bond 26. In fact, I have even written a fan-fiction story with him in mind in the role. I like the idea of Margot Robbie, she is intriguing. My casting list is Cavill for Bond, Claes Bang for "M," Kenneth Branaugh for "Q," Idris Elba as an unnamed villain, Stephen Campbell Moore as Bill Tanner, Kevin Costner as Felix Leiter, Morfydd Clark as Moneypenny, Sofia Boutella as one of the Bond girls, and Gal Gadot as a possible love interest or Bond teammate. The producers need to listen to the general public and get Cavill for the role. Also, don't be so hyper focused on the technology, gimmicks, etc. Develop a real story, with character development, tie into Bond's past and use those elements in his character development, and for God's sake don't make him EMO / Mopey Bond. Make him the action character, with suave appeal and make him a "man's" man! Have him fight, smoke Morland cigarettes, drink Martinis (shaken not stirred), play Baccarat, chase beautiful women, and fight for King and Country to stop the maniacal villain (one with some intelligence). Also, develop the relationships with M, Q, Moneypenny, Felix Leiter, and Bill Tanner. They could even eventually do prequel backstories for the associated characters in the Bond universe. Overall, with the script, the story has to make sense, not some inane plotline.

I wonder how history will remember the Craig era. CR aside, i find it hard to rewarch his movies. They can be too long and really drag. Anyway, 1 movie in 9 years, and probably closer to 12+ by the next one, seems like a franchise, or producers, who have run out of steam.

What’s this?? A sixty year old movie franchise based on 70 year old books isn’t cutting it anymore? I am a lifelong fan of both and it’s not only over, it has been for a long time. You’re going to defend Moonraker? Octopussy? View to a Kill? Anything with Timothy Dalton in it? They ran out of Fleming titles in the early 70 s and I say titles because their relationship with the plots of the books ended after Thunderball!
