Pierce Brosnan was the Bond of our childhood. GoldenEye was such a huge part of our lives, the movie and the game. We were skeptical of Daniel Craig initially, but he took 007 to a darker place entirely. Casino Royale was a gamble that paid off in every way.

When you say "we" and "our" you're speaking for yourself, right? Because most people's Bond is Sean Connery. And no one I know even saw GoldenEye. Though we did play the crap out of the N64 game.

Goldeneye was kinda wack imo, and it was the first bond film i ever watched. I saw a few with Sean Connery as well, but same wackness. It's just cringey and corny, I'm sure people back in the day enjoyed it, but by today's standards they're just too goofy imo.

Another thing to remember is you don’t hear James Bond’s theme until the very last scene. When Mr. White is on the phone, and James says we have to talk. As James is slowly, walking up the steps, then, we finally hear his music playing. To signify that he has finally become the man he supposed to be and now he is James Bond.

The events of Casino Royale and Vesper in the books as well as with Craig's five films as Bond pretty much linger on him throughout his life and will effect him going forward. Vesper only appears in Royale but she haunts him a long time.

Casey is on point about the whole "he's heartbroken, he'll never trust anyone again." This movie was conceptualized to be about the birth of "the persona" of James Bond. We see hints of it throughout the film---the womanizing, the rizz, the swagger---but Vesper was that glimmer of normalcy pulling him away from that. When she broke his heart and died in front of him, there was no going back---he fully became 007. The music is a great queue to all this. Throughout the movie, whenever he's doing 007 things, you don't hear the iconic James Bond theme; you hear the movie's theme song ("You Know My Name"). It's only at the end, when he's fully accepted his role as 007, together with the delivery of the signature line "Bond, James Bond" that the famous instrumental stinger comes in.
@5ilver42

I would have liked to have seen a through line of this to Tracy, a woman who melts away that persona after hardening on, only to be killed and permanently cement it into him for all time.

This film is 100% a hard reboot of the Bond franchise, completely starting over. The waters get a little muddy because they kept on Judi Dench as M who also played the character in the Pierce Brosnan movies, but that's only because she was so good in the role. She just plays two different versions of the same character.

there was a writers strike at the time of the sequel to this and it greatly effected how the plot and dialogue went. Also the situation that turns his heart to stone and his armour back on is a little homage to an earlier bond movie tradgedy. Bond was married once in the older movies and as you can probably guess it ends with him heart broken. The idea is he starts to see people as assets instead of friends or loved ones and becomes isolated so he can't be hurt again.

The Pierce Brosnan and Daniel Craig Bond movies are good enough to hook a viewer so they'll be interested enough to want to see more. I don't feel like a new viewer would have gotten that from the prior movies. Great reaction! Enjoyed! Also, the Daniel Craig Bond movies are one continuous story, or at least, they're all connected. as many have probably already pointed out: that's a mongoose, it's kept as a pet in many asian countries, as it's usually the predator/killer of snakes/cobras, instead of having a "guard dog against people coming into their homes", they have a "guard mongoose against snakes/cobras coming into their homes" I'm pretty sure it's not immune to the cobra's venom, but it has such lightning fast reflexes and speed, that usually it's the one that kills the cobra (I forgot what big cat, maybe a leopard, that also has such lightning fast reflexes and speed, that can also take on poisonous snakes, even as a cub, with their mothers watching them, lol, as they just move and react to fast, the "poor" poisonous snake is helpless, unable to land any bite/strike/"hit" on them, lol) (there's an old short, presumably disney but maybe not, cartoon movie-film called "rikki tikki tavi", that us older generations saw and learned of mongooses from it, laughs) actually, it's right here on utube, if you wanna watch it: kzbin.info/www/bejne/inyWZnRrfq11abM (err... it's just frame shots and audio/sub reading, it's not the actual animation-movie-film of it, unfortunately, but I just did a quick search... maybe you can find the actual animation-movie-film of it on utube... or elsewhere... lol)

I loved this movie. I’d recommend people who haven’t watched any Bond movies to familiarize themselves with the older movies or at least the concept of Bond (running jokes, storylines, suaveness, feel of the movies) before watching the Craig Bond movies. Or, if you’ve already watched them, look at the older stuff and then come back to Craig. There are SO MANY references, details, jokes based on what has been published. If you want to dive deep, read the books, but I don’t think that it’s necessary for the older movies and while Craig’s Bond is closer to Fleming‘s Bond (and there are some direct quotes), the callbacks are mostly related to the movies.

Mongooses are, I believe, a member of the Martin class, closely related to weasels. [EDIT: Apparently, 1) 'Marten' is no longer used as a taxinomic order (to differentiate from the genus), and 2) mongoose are far more closely related to hyenas (!) than weasels, also meerkats are their only close cousin.) They are famous snake killers, especially when defending their young. High speed videos are really impressive.

Reboot is the best word for this movie. Daniel Craig's 5 Bond films make up one long story chronicling Bond's entire career. Also, the reference to Bond not giving a Damn how his martini is prepared IS a joke, s you thought, but it's also an indication that this is still early in his career at MI6. This job and the lifestyle he has to portray is still new to him. All the most famous Bond tropes get sprinkled through the Craig films little by little. Bond's preference for his martinis being shaken, not stirred is introduced in a later film.

Great reaction. Craig's Bond movies tend to follow a Star Trek movie pattern. i.e. Good/bad/good/bad. They're all entertaining in their own way, but I think Casino Royale was the best of his. Personally if you're new to the series and want to get more into it, I think it's worth checking out the most critically acclaimed ones regardless of the actor. Apart from the Craig era, Bond movies tend to stand on their own, and some of the older movies are better examples of the overall formula that made them famous.

The exhibition is called Körperwelten (body world) where real Human bodys are shown wich are prepared with resin so that they are preserved. Those people have donated their bodies to science. Its kinda creepy but also very interesting because there is no better way to see a human body in that detail.

It's funny how it turned out when he said she's not his type "single" and it turns out she was his type and she wasn't technically single as it turns out. 😂
