Mr. James Brown was the epitome of what a classic, entertaining, live show is. No one can beat him. His musicians were just simply, the very best. He commanded perfection and 100% from everyone in his production. Truly, a maestro of his craft.

Actually saw my man blue Royce driving somewhere thru Massillon Ohio as I came out of the downtown Library on Lincoln way heading east. Automatically I went into the JB strut. JB rolled his window down gave me the black power sign. His driver said there goes one. That made my day. Love the man and his music. I just played his music over an over. Neighbors knocked on my door.

In his book, Working For the Man, Damon Wood describes the moment at 53:30 when JB called him for a solo and then left the stage. JB went off for a costume change, unexpectedly leaving Wood to keep it up until he returned at 56:30. You can see Wood pull out the stage tricks, from playing with his teeth to falling to his knees, while he keeps the riffs coming thick and fast.

I wish you could find a clip of Mr. Brown doing splits between 1965 and 1971 because in every clip, every taped concert, every live concert I went too or every tv show I have seen between those years he didn't do any splits and started again doing them in 1972. Even that live performance of him performing 'Night Train' in 1965 on Shindig, going up and around that ramp on the tv show, he did a push up, but no split.
