Everybody wants to talk about the performance, but can we talk about that tux jacket/vest combo? Incredible.

@michaellopez20706 ай бұрын
It's basically from the Jazz standard age, like 20s or 30s. That's why the lyrics are so good. Songs basically had to stand on their own of a very stripped base, and then people did their interpretations. James Brown goes through so many dimensions of expression here. It's basically perfect open singing/front man musical performance. They had the stage backing, of course, but he could have had the same impact in only black and white with a black backdrop and a spotlight on him. He grew up street performing so knew how to make something out of thin air.

We just loved him!!! He put so much of everything in what he did. I'm glad I caught him at the height of his power in 1968, hetore The Apollo Theatre up. I wanted to stay for a second show, but the alter guys cleared the place out. I thought of hiding under a seat, but I knew that wasn't going to work. Years later in the 80's a caught him again at the same theatre.
