There's a whole lot of folks that didn't realize that James Brown actually had a beautiful singing voice. Check out the work he did in the 60's with ballads like "Bewildered", "Try me" and "It's a man's world." He sang a version of Try me in 67 on his "Live at the Apollo" album that's nothing short of brilliant! It wasn't until the mid 70's that Mr. Brown's voice began to go away, very likely from all the years of screaming coupled with the unavoidable aging process... A sacrifice he was more than willing to make... In his own words: "I screamed and crawled my way to everything I have." Rest in peace, Mr. Brown. You were TRULY the godfather of R&B, Funk and Soul.

I don't think anyone didn't realize that. His voice hits you hard from the jump. I've been showing people James Brown all the time and they're all amazed at his wonderful raspy voice. This is what a male singer should sound like, not a nasal, high pitched, falsetto borderline girl voice.

Great points...JB doesn't get the credit he deserves for being a great ballad singer because he was emphatically one of the best!!!

He is the only singer I see in all aspects up their with Elvis. I have been an Elvis fan for over 40 years an have listen to everything by Elvis and still do on Sirius radio. I see James right their with him and that is something I thought I would never say about anyone. Like Elvis, James created a new world of music, and like Elvis, James heart was revealed in his songs and his talking to the public. James I believe is a good man in heart and towards other humans. He is one of my hero’s, just like Elvis. They had their faults, as do we all. In his movie, I liked how he addressed everyone in a professional manor, something that stuck on to me very strong. He had a childhood of no support but yet he had an adult life of very strong support for others.

Grew up in the 50s and 60s. James Brown was in the background of my life, the far background. Didn't care much for him. Too loud, clownish, over the top. Came here looking for anyone singing this song other than Bennett. Listened to Browns rendition. I am AMAZED. Didn't know he had it in him.
@littlejimmyscumbag25518 жыл бұрын
+Thelastminstrel No offense to Bennett as a person but one word comes to mind when comparing him to James Brown and that's boring. James Brown was electrifying. Soul brother number one.

Thelastminstrel Yeah there was some people who thought his music was too wild. ..but forget his the Godfather of Soul and had really nice ballads, Splits, dances, spins, one and 3 beat. Tiredless performer

Stirring stuff! And with the greatest respect - this brings JB one step closer to The Goons. Brits may get what I mean! ;)

This is NOT The J.B.’s. That band was not formed until 1970. This was the JAMES BROWN ORCHESTRA. It’s important if you’re going to post something like this to get the information correct.
