James Cameron is a true blue collar hero. Former janitor to make ends meet. Teaching himself cinematography and special effects at a public library in his spare time while being a truck driver. Climbing the ladders below the line as a special effect director/matte painter. Sleeping in his car in LA before securing his first true directing/scripwriting gig on Terminator. Diving alone in the Mariana trenches at the deepest of the Pacific Ocean in a sub he helped building. How could you not admire that man's accomplishments?

Big Cameron fan here. His body of work has made him the best action director of all time. It always feels visceral and authentic unlike a lot of directors who go overboard into the realm of ridiculousnesses. His action sequences in Aliens , T1 and T2 were incredible. The attack on Pandora in Avatar was brilliant too. Nothing wrong with having a big ego in the movie business when you can deliver the goods to an audience time and time again.

I have never heard of afternoon tea breaks lasting an hour here in the UK, 10-15 mins is the norm, has been for decades so I question that. Lots of well respected directors work perfectly well at Pinewood making Bond movies and other major motion pictures and still do. So I think this was more likely a culture clash between a workaholic Canadian director with a lot to prove on one of his first major movies and an established crew used to working a certain way with breaks included. An outstanding movie none the less.

Video says that Titanic's original approved budget was 200 million. This is incorrect, original budget was 110 million, it went way over budget, Cameron forfeited his salary (which wasn't of much help to the amount they actually needed to complete the film). Ended up being 200 million afterwards after lots of stress, delays, drama involving the studio. Originally it was going to be only a Fox production, but they had to split some of the costs with Paramount (which I believe was not originally involved).

From Wiki: “Underwater sequences for the film were shot at a unit of the Gaffney Studios, situated south of Cherokee Falls, outside Gaffney, South Carolina, which had been abandoned by Duke Power officials after previously spending $700 million constructing the Cherokee Nuclear Power Plant, along Owensby Street, Gaffney, South Carolina. Two specially constructed tanks were used. The first one, based on the abandoned plant's primary reactor containment vessel, held 7.5 million US gallons (28,000 m3) of water, was 55 feet (18 m) deep and 209 feet (70 m) across. At the time, it was the largest fresh-water filtered tank in the world. Additional scenes were shot in the second tank, an unused turbine pit, which held 2.5 million US gallons (9,500 m3) of water. All the tech and science is for nothing if you don’t have a good script and relatable characters. That’s what James Cameron understands and that’s why his movies become such big hits imho. Any of his movies could easily have become technological orgies for geeks, with their characters being little else than moving props. However, Mr C goes as far as he possibly can to grab hold of the raw nerves of his audience first. Being a Titanic nerd since childhood, it was like sheer Christmas to go see a movie where you’d finally see the ship in all her glory in those first recreated 1912 scenes. However, the love story between Jack and Rose caught me SO hard that when the iceberg finally turned up, I was jolted back into ”oh yes, the ship’s going to SINK, I almost forgot!” And then all of the strong female characters… and their true femininity in how they see and relate to things… you could write a book on that alone.

I appreciate the effort in making this. I'ts in many ways a good summary of JC's carreer. However there are some (well, a lot of) loosely handled (wrong and missing) facts here (to say the least). One of the most glaringly obvious is the list of Academy Award nominations for Aliens 20:12 which skips Sigourney Weaver's nomination for best actress in a leading role but lists the other four! (Yes it got five nominations, not four). Spending more time on fact checking and proof reading scripts is probably a good idea.

People like to say James Cameron was a tyrant on set and often point to the punishment everyone went through on The Abyss but here is why I dont believe that counts and it was not tyrant behaviour - he subjected himself to everything he asked of the crew and more - he never asked them to do something he wasnt willing to do himself and was there suffering with them every step of the way to get it perfect. The dude asked a LOT of people, sure, but he lead by example and put his money where his mouth was in never asking for stuff he wasnt willing to do personally. The dude is to directing what Tom Cruise is to acting - just unrelenting and a level of dedication thats almost unheard of and unfathomable.

After having watched at least 7 videos produced by "Biographer," I've concluded that the strange pronunciations of names of people and places are deliberate affectations, not mistakes. He puts the accents on the wrong syllables, uses long vowels instead of short vowels, and other things. One of my "favorites" is his pronouncing Dame Judi Dench as "Jude-eye" instead of "Jude-ee." Unfortunately, I was drinking some water at the time, and hearing Jude-eye made me spit water all over myself! Why does he do this? So he becomes memorable! 😹

James is a true artist, UNIQUE in his style, watching his approach to tell a story, I lost count how many times I have seen Titanic over the years, well over 1000 times; I know the movie line by line by heart; it is like a studying for a career I will never have but it brings me great pleasure every time I watch it which why I can not stop doing it, maybe I am sort of a hopelessly romantic; now same goes for Avatar I have watched the first one many times and about 10 times since released the second, learning the scenes by heart; if I would expend the same time in my own craft as a musician I would probably become a huge star but I have an avid passion for watching stories and films; when very young I read any good book I could get hands on and about everything; my approach to do anything in life is exactly the same as James shows in his work; we could be distant twins in that aspect and people like that come across as assholes and hard asses to those watching; becomes a tyrant of sorts but that is what deep passion does, I have never met a giant that did not inspired fear or respect for his stature; in the end it happens people like this turn out to be really good persons; look up Sigourney Weaver's interview where she describes James personality. This world needs more James!

Hey. I believe that Cameron had the idea of the "liquid metal" Terminator from the start. His original idea I believe was for Henriksen to play a Terminator infiltration unit that was made of "liquid metal" and Arnold to be the good guy from the Resistence - Sarah's protector. Then on one side Arnold convinced Cameron that he wanted to play the Terminator robot, while on the other side the idea of liquid metal Terminator was a bit ahead of its time in 1983 so they decided not to use it. Cameron's idea for Henriksen to play the Terminator infiltration unit was based on his perception that this kind of robot would have to be slick and should not have stood out in public but instead blending in. He thought Arnold was to muscular and would stand out too much. In a way T2 was actually closer to his original vision, but I have to say I'm one of the people who prefer the original Terminator by far. Yeah the cinematic production of T2 is levels above, but I just loved the chemistry and the acting of T1. It's my alltime favorite Cameron and Arnold movie.

Its surprising to look at his Filmography and realise how small it actually is. Reminds me of another director, Stanley Kubrick. However, Cameron hasn't branched into as many genres as Kubrick did but the work he has done has been mould breaking and fantastic. the only things I wish for Cameron in terms of future film making is to get this avatar 4 film epic out of his system so we can see something that isn't avatar from him before his career is over

Pretty sure you're confusing The Terminator with Terminator 2 Judgement day where the T-1000 liquid metal terminator is introduced.
