I was listening to his podcast the other day and he was with Jason who doesn’t live with him. The may have been sat apart idk but they have literally done a podcast before from two different locations when they were in other states before so I don’t really understand why they can’t do that again? Libbyloo 68 yeah. I agree. But, to play devil’s advocate, I can kinda understand where they’re coming from. Like, they only go to each other’s houses and I guess they trust each other enough to not worry about where they’ve been. My parents continue to go to my grandparents and the rest of their siblings go to them as well. So I guess I can understand where they’re coming from. I just don’t like how they keep talking about “social distancing” and “quarantine” when they aren’t fully participating in it.

@veronikaqueenstone6133
@veronikaqueenstone6133 4 жыл бұрын
@@whatsmyusernameagain4130 That's true! Even to healthy people, you may need some hospital care if you catch the virus. If the hospitals are at capacity you will either take the place of someone else who needs it or be turned away. My great aunt was taken out of the ICU and has passed away because of they made room for COVID-19 patients. And also, if you aren't quarantining you could spread and cause the death of someone else, and in my opinion that is manslaughter. I have a chronic illness, although I should be okay if I catch it that doesn't matter as people like my mother, father, grandmother, and grandfather may not be okay. I believe that the people who refuse to social distance care more about themselves and their social lives than the lives of others. To whoever isn't social distancing, you are pathetic and selfish. How does it feel to be the cause of deaths?

@@stephaniedemeyer4961 Thank you, I believe she's no longer suffering and is finally at peace. That's very true, if possible people can video chat, call, or text their friends and family. I've been having my mental health appointments via video chat. Getting fresh air and sunlight is also an important thing to do if possible. In my situation, I could open a window, sit outside, or go for a walk around my neighborhood. As long as people abide by the rules while they're exercising then I definitely recommend it. Another super important thing to remember is this is all temporary and once it's over your life can go back to normal.

@TatzRules Yay I just want to understand, because I get that people get triggered by things that don't even necessarily make sense to others. I have ptsd and some of my triggers are really weird. My thinking is that people do special effects makeup and are celebrated because it's cool and they have talent. Not everyone has to like it, but like I said, people have triggers and blood and bruising is not hard to understand. Is it the lack of a trigger warning, which should be there (I don't know whether it was) or is it that he did it at all?
@kwitsisuma
@kwitsisuma 4 жыл бұрын
It's a nuanced issue, James is the bigger name, it has less to do with follower count, there is also the lack of the trigger warning for persons who could be triggered by something like this. It was not obviously presented that it was a part of the "mugshot trend" it was just this picture. And his own fans were the ones being kind and asking him, kindly, to at least place a warning. There were people apologising for being triggered. Which is sad. They wanted to be so careful not to come off as hateful that they apologised for their own PTSD and domestic violence and triggers. And lastly, it was racially insensitive. Black people and minorities live the reality of police brutality and being disproportionately imprisoned on a daily basis. As a white man who will not ever have to live this reality it's just hurtful. This is not a "fun trend" but something that happens to racial minorities on a daily. James was criticized in this situation because he was the biggest *name* to participate. The most known person in these circles. I do agree that people do need to be more clear in criticizing the trend and not James himself.
@wormwheels8413
@wormwheels8413 4 жыл бұрын
@@kwitsisuma that makes sense. I wasn't even thinking about police brutality but that's very true. The whole mugshot trend never felt right to me and honestly, now that i think about it, I've only seen white ppl doing the trend (not saying poc didn't do it, I just haven't seen it so far). Anyway, thank you for explaining that.

but she doesn't cover all sides in her Elijah-Jeffree she ignored all sides of the stories except her biased hate towards Jeffree she ignored that: Elijah went public instead of privately asking Jeffree so he would have no choice to say yes Jeffree did a massive restock on a lot of lipstick shades and his blood lust pallet at that time and he also was supposed to do a massive restock of the conspiracy collection this month, so his warehouses are definitely either full ore over packed. she downplayed the thousands of dollars Jeffree gave away to a lot of his fans and said that he couldn't spare some space shows she is biassed and hates Jeffree she ignored that makeup isn't an essential business so his wear houses and business are entirely closed the only way Jeffree could donate the wear house, was if he was an essential business which he isn't. she was also very rude, disrespectful and made mocking kissing faces at Jeffree to the point that evry single comment is about her not doing research and that video has one thousand dislikes which is five times the amount of dislikes that she usually gets. her hatred for JS is really clouding her judgment. not only that but she doesn't bother to do MINIMAL research whit her topics doesn't fact check them and straight out gives incorrect information like the Jeffree-Elijah thing she didn't do research on the Justine Biticon issue, why pewdiepie deleted his twitter, cole cardigan did credit the artist and was spreading awareness and put three links to donate and many many more. she brainwashed her self to thinking that comments that tell her that she doesn't do research and correct her when she gives incorrect information, are calling her an ugly bitch and are all hate comments where they clearly aren't.

@@jadecoolness101 (sorry this response is so long btw) I agree. I'm sure James meant no offense by his makeup look. I just think that, in general, instead of immediately cancelling influencers who (let's face it, are people and are constantly learning and growing just like all of us, except they're doing it online for us all to see) don't mean any harm and haven't thought about what they're doing from each and every perspective, we teach them and others. I understand people being angry by an influencer's initial action especially if they are directly affected by it, but I think we should start waiting to cancel people in these types of situations until they show repeated behavior patterns. That being said, I still don't think it was right for James to be the only one called out in this situation, especially for following a trend centered around something he's built his career off of. Maybe if he does sfx makeup again he can just throw in a quick little "this look contains blood/bruise/etc." so that people who don't want to see those kinds of looks from him can just quickly scroll past?

Im a domestic abuse survivor, twice hospitalized for life-threatening injuries. So I understand that bloody pictures etc can be triggering. But even with my past I understand not to expect media (social or traditional) to never include triggering images. I am actively working to get away from those triggers because I refuse to be triggered just because the horrible human being did awful things to me that I did not deserve. So yes, I feel for people who get triggered but no, it doesnt mean people should never ever post anything related to blood or bruises. This trend is harmless. The only thing I wish James Charles would have done differently is add a caption that it is a trend and not leave out that to add shock value.

When ppl do special fx makeup for Halloween and when, like James said, music artists have themselves in special fx makeup for their albums (when sometimes their albums have ntn to do with domestic violence/abuse or they could’ve used another image to portray the same concept) why don’t these people come out and say that ‘this is offensive and triggers me’ or some shit like that?? They didn’t have to go comment it to James, that’s their issue, not his. Go to a therapist or a loved one and talk about how this triggers you, not fucking Twitter. exactly. yes, other people did it, but they were much smaller and a lot of people didn’t even KNOW about the challenge beforehand. James is a big youtuber who built his following largely due to drama, so he’ll always be more heavily criticized, but so long as that criticism isn’t hate (which it mainly isn’t), then that’s fine. people jumped on people for singing a fucking song; he may have gone in without any bad intentions but it was interpreted that way by a large amount of people and that should be acknowledged. he shouldn’t to be absolved of criticism or people making valid point because some people are asshats and take things too far/jump on him for everything. the that others may not have been offended is irrelevant; obviously some people were. he should take this as a lesson. people were doing Coronavirus makeup too, and while that isn’t on the same level, they were slammed for it bc it was insensitive regardless of whether or not it was FX and meaningless harm (this was during the beginning of feb i think, too. don’t try to justify it; just admit that what you did was shitty and don’t do it again, or do it during a different time and make your intentions clear.

You’re not responsible for what random people are “reminded of” when they consume your content. That’s ridiculous. Do you know what reminds me of the person who abused me? The song “Numb” by Linkin Park, because he used to play it a lot. I don’t condemn anyone now for enjoying or playing the song just because it reminds me of something bad. The song itself is not the problem, nor is anyone who listens to it. In the case of James Charles, he could breathe heavily into a camera and some rando on the internet could say it reminded them of respiratory diseases and that James should be ashamed of himself for breathing. If people don’t like him or the tiktok trends he creates content for, they can stop subscribing to it. He’s not hurting anyone.

THANK YOU. I wanted to say this on twitter but I didn’t know how to word it properly and thought I would (ironically enough) offend people. People need to build up their resilience. A big reason there’s such high levels of anxiety and depression is because people are constantly being censored and over protected from the world, which sends a message that the world is a big bad scary place. Shielding people from the bad stuff and trying to control the world is not the answer. Building resilience and taking responsibility for how you respond to things is what people need to be doing. Literally the only way to not “trigger” or be “sensitive” towards someone is to not talk, dress, or post ANYTHING someone may have an opinion on. An influencer can say “tanning!” In their backyard and people will say “oh you will get skin cancer” or “you will get wrinkles” or “i did this and my skin is sooo bad”. It seems “fans” or just people stumbling upon their post try to make the influencers feel bad for their own personal decisions. There are some lines people shouldn’t cross but there are times where they are clearly just having fun or delving into something everyone else is doing. Unless it is clearly stated by the person or it is very clear what the message being said is, THEN there can be discussion about whether that person is in the wrong or not.

Honestly, the fake mugshots thing is toxic and stupid in itself. The trend should be criticized, not just James. Edit: For those of you confused; it is not the makeup itself that is wrong imo. It's the fact that we live in an age where police can beat the shit out of people of color for no reason and get away with it. The fact that people's mugshots can actually look like that; not because of a criminal but because of the people who are supposed to PROTECT THEM is a serious issue. THE MAKEUP IS NOT THE ISSUE. It is the context behind injuries in real mugshots, and that context is nothing to act out. Secondly, SFX makeup that deals with zombies, a character (that has a history of fighting/has fought), or anything else does not reference real people who have been wronged by a broken ass system. It is disrespectful to mimic real victims of real abuse that we have documented. It's different when your a made up ass character. Hope this helps.

@@lucijasanjug3860 I can see how that might happen, but to expect a person that does makeup, that profits from it, to not follow a makeup trend that could be comparable to Sfx makeup, is honestly surreal. I think the reason James got the hate was his original caption to the picture which was something along the lines of I asked him to choke/ smack me one too many times or something like that. Not that I think it’s fair, I just think that’s why the connection was made and why he got so much hate. Well that and everyone loves to hate on everything he does.

first of all: this trend is problematic, i don’t agree with it, don’t like it, it shouldn’t be a thing. but, on that note, the problem about the james charles situation is that he posted the mugshot picture on instagram. that’s a tiktok trend. people on instagram will not 1) understand the context, 2) know the other thousand of videos made under the same trend. james needs to understand that a tiktok trend is a tiktok trend, not to be posted elsewhere, cause the context is different, the audience is different.

And, despite me not liking James Charles, I agree with him when he defended himself saying it’s not much different than Halloween makeup and action movies with blood and bruises.

Had to pause the vid to write this down. You really were harsh back then, and I specifically remember thinking “well I agree her on the topic (it was a zoella video) but the way she speaks and treats this whole thing is just way too much for me” So i was kinda conflicted about you, bc we shared the same opinions and beliefs but you seemed like a hater almost? And i just found that immature haha. But after that, KZbin started recommending you like crazy, and I’m really glad I stick around. In movies and TV where you see a fight, or a suicide take place, there's never be a disclaimer of "oh don't watch this thing you paid for if you're triggered". Like Oculus, Lights Out, Jessica Jones which is literally a story breaking free from a manipulative freak, Sinister, there's no warning for triggering content in front of those at all. And they're filled with dark shiz....so why is it on the net we need that warning and if you dont post that warning all of a sudden you suck and don't care? I'm very sorry if you were triggered by this trend, but you just cannot MAKE others conform to your needs. That's not how life works. Some say that SFX is used to tell a story so SFX gets a pass...well...sometimes that story involves rape, murder, domestic abuse so....again.....where do we draw the line?

Ribotto Studios I mean it could be argued that movies and tv shows should be held to a higher standard of trigger warnings. I’ve tried watching the first episode of tv shows before and been kinda triggered by it and I don’t even have ptsd. And as far as drawing the line on the internet, I think it’s generally accepted to tw sexual assault, violence, eating disorders, etc. Since anything could be a trigger, you still have to be careful around the internet, but I’m sure it helps a lot when people tw things so you don’t have to come across something you shouldn’t have seen

Jaxo I see your point and I get why you don’t like him, but I think that people need to focus on the actual things that he did wrong, like building his career on a lie and other stuff like that. Attacking him for smaller things where he isn’t even in the wrong, or where he isn’t the only one in the wrong is just going to make him invalidate all the other valid criticisms that people have against him. When people call him out on his big fuck ups he’s not going to think much of it because the same people came at him for smaller things like the whole “Rosa” thing.

I liked your point about the James/Trend tea. I admit that, when I saw it, I initially was disgusted because I thought it was a look for domestic violence and that's a really heavy thing to make into a look, ya know? I get why people would upset about it from that aspect. But once you look into, it's just a weird, prison/fight trend. I still, personally, don't vibe with it. The trend as whole, not just James, is kind of uncomfortable. But you're right, keep that same energy across the board instead of going for one person.
