@@haydendouglas7596 Well my dad and I have been going through everything trying to find your John, haven't had luck. I know my ansestors migrated to Surry N. Carolina then to Washington county Tennessee. My actual ansestor who migrated was Alexander Douglas married to Christina Grant. Maybe you could find a connection. I came through James (the Blacks) brother Archibald. Nice talking with you, I'm sure we are cousins somehow 🤔

Laurie Abu-Obeid alright! I’ll start looking through what I have and see if I can find any connections between us. I’m trying to pinpoint exactly which Douglas I come from. The Douglases on my side sailed from Roxburghshire, Scotland in 1851 through the Gulf of Mexico and continued north until they landed in beardstown, Illinois. 6 of the 11 settled in Illinois and the other 5 continued to Australia from what I told. Not sure where they went but I know there’s a Port Douglas in Australia! I’m sure we are related somewhere down the line lol.

My ancestor Thomas Dickson, a distant cousin to Sir James Douglas, fought alongside James, William Wallace and Robert the Bruce. Thomas Dickson went with James Douglas to retake Douglas castle from the English..He was killed in battle that Sunday in 1297 by a slash across his belly, he was seen holding his belly to keep his guts in while he fought on finally succumbing to his wounds. Dickson and his family were ceded lands south of Douglas by Robert the Bruce for his bravery in battle. My name is Reese Thomas Dickson and am proud to say I am a decendant of Thomas Dickson. The Douglas and Dickson have always been great friends.

It literally says in this video sir James Douglas was a kid in the 1st wars and that he was in education in France in 1297? so I think you mean your ancestor fought alongside William Douglas James father James didn’t return to Scotland till assault on sterling castle 1304 meaning Thomas Dickson was dead your dates don’t add up at all lol he retook Douglas castle in 1307 so how was a man that died 10years before there with him if your going to talk a load of Pooh on KZbin at least get the dates accurate then people might actually half believe you lool

@@chasemurraychristopherdola7108 its a concise history of the period of his life (De Brus). He was also remarkable as a man, even named one of the three greatest knights in Christendom by the pope due to his martial ability. It goes into depth about James, also skims over his father William. Covers his major battles, covers an unsung hero named Thomas Randolph. Most sources used are primary sources (i.e writing at the time), so likely what actually happened. What I liked about it is he used sources who were opposed to Scotland (like the monks of Lanercost). For a history book, it still manages to read like game of thrones. Edit: i believe the actual republished title is Robert the Bruce: King of Scots

I love this, particularly since you included the remark of my ancestor Roger Kirkpatrick, “I MAK SICCAR!” stated at the murder of Red Comyn in the Greyfriars Church. I do metal detecting and found an antique silver Scottish medallion that is heavily engraved on both sides with Scottish icons, phrases and mottos including that phrase which is the Kirkpatrick Family motto and part of our crest. A great deal of research with universities, museums and historians in the US, UK and Scotland has allowed me to interpret the engravings which include a direct reference to Wallace. I actually recently released a video about the medallion and what I have learned about it and would love to share it with you. If you are interested in learning about it, send me an email to chipk@bellsouth.net. Put the word MEDALLION in the subject line so I’ll be sure to respond. I would love to hear your reactions and thoughts on it. I think you would be very interested
