My high school rugby coach used to say “rugby can be played by anybody, but it’s not for everybody”. So true that we can’t make it all things for all people. We should welcome anyone who wants to come to the game a a player, spectator, volunteer, etc, but we can’t make it something it’s not. So many people come to the game because they love the physically, intensity, and passion. Many other great sporting options out there if it’s not your cup of tea

As an American I admire how brave the Rugby player is, it's debatable which sport is more physical, someone that played both said "Football is some car crashes" Rugby is "Boxers/Free Style wrestlers getting pounded over and over" But the bravery I am talking about is seeing players in absolute agony staying in games where our guys are typically taken out one or few plays, and recovering before going back in the game after catching their breath due to the different rules with substitutions which are unlimited really in our Football. I say that to say our Football is my #1 passion, but Rugby is catching up to Hockey as my #2... I don't watch Basketball at all, and Baseball is only a good sport to watch when you want to take a nap in the middle of a game, and not miss much after half an hour which is not all bad for a 53 year old like me! 🤣

The red card madness peaked in the 2019 World Cup. That Curry red card in the ARG-ENG was an absolute joke, an accidental clash of heads totally throws a game upside down. Same with the final. I would have preferred that SA-NZ was settled 15 vs 15, instead of some over the top decision that basically handed the cup to S Africa.

It's not the big hits that cause CTE... It's the accumulation of small "normal" impacts that are impossible to get rid of. Loved rugby but my kids won't play.

At the elite level we should celebrate the physical nature of the game that's one of the main reasons that the majority of people watch the sport, i don't condone thuggery however i want to see huge physicality and legal intimidation as well as great running and handling skills we have a set of laws that are too fussy about minor infringements and accidental head contact because of the threat from lawyers on behalf of former players. I'm all for excellent medical care however if you play professional rugby you have to accept a degree of danger otherwise don't play professional rugby.

TMO comes in and Tel’s the referee what the sanction is and if a card is needed. No mother’s meeting to go over what he’s seen.

Nonsense, most concussions in rugby come from head contact to the knees, tacklers are more at risk. All this head on head talk is ridiculous, 90% of them are unavoidable, natural rugby collisions, red cards and 6 week bans don’t have any effect on this.

100% agree - it needs to celebrte the physicality not apologies every time someone gets hurt and have weak red cards for some touching a persons head.
