Making yourself look bigger in front of a polar bear just makes the polar bear think…more food.

The polar bear has made a living of killing elephant seals twice the size of a polar bear. What do you think you are gonna be against that? Either have a gun or say your prayers.

I saw a documentary years ago. The camera man was in a steel cage, the polar bear stayed for hours trying to get him. The crew could just sit and watch until the bear gave up.

I was photographing birds of prey in Australia and I heard wild dogs hunting me. Thankfully they were "yapping" and I could hear them getting closer and giving me a heads up. They stopped that talking when they were around 200m away. They also had to cross a deep but thin river to get to me. Gave me time to get away. I can't imagine something like a Polar Bear appearing next to you. Dogs were bad enough.

**Don’t follow their bear advice** If black bears attack, it’s bc they’re starving and aim to eat you. Grizzly’s don’t just “leave you alone”, if you play dead--especially if it’s a mama bear. Roll on your stomach, cover your neck and pray they don’t flip you. Polar bears HUNT humans, there is no defense other than long range shots with a fully loaded high powered rifle.

Till this morning 🙂🌄 I'd never seen or heard this discussion. But the round table format is just great & fantastic. The topic by the one fella is a recurring one of interest too me. As he mildly mentioned, about Bear's? Of the four types in North America. IF it's Black? You should fight Back, IF it's Brown lie down & stay quiet ( Grizzly & Brown Bear ?) depending on it's attitude. IF it's White as in being a Polar Bear? You are most likely already Dead. They are known as the White Death ☠️💀. Those are the rhyming verse's too the saying's. Truly of the Apex or Lg. predators Polar Bear's 🐻‍❄️🐻‍❄️ are the most lethal, dangerous, and notorious one's, most likely too stalk & Kill you. IT'S been proven hundreds of times. Thanks.

Never liked him after he publicly criticised a team leader on camera when on an expedition, criticising the leader for 'bottling it' with regards to a river rapids crossing. Backshall made sure the team leader was not present when he made the criticism, which only added to the injustice, Backshall didn't give the guy the chance to defend himself.

It depends on the brown bear if it’s a sow and cubs you play dead she’s only trying to neutralise the threat to her cubs so if you play dead she may get to be satisfied your not a threat anymore and leave you alone but if it’s a boar your really dead if he comes for you

I once managed to fight and win against two polar bears at once. I choked the first one out with a standing D'arce choke, then stunned the second with some well timed jabs, before a jumping left hook knocked it out. All the female polar bears started cheering and made me their king.

I love how experts can be wrong sometimes. Being big and confident is the last thing you will do if ya with a Gorilla. And your only chance with a polar bear is take off clothing and drop it and keep moving you may have enough clothing to get to safety before freezing or loosing the race. WHY? Because PB's have a version of ADHD and anything out of place with a scent on it will peak their curiosity and they take time to investigate it thoroughly giving you a slight chance to escape.
