Haskell is a player that I think of as a great sub, because he can fill in for Flanker or Number 8. That's not saying he's not good enough to start but simply because no one else can do that as well as Haskell can. Wood and Robshaw are great in Flanker and Morgan and Vunipola are great in Number 8, but as a player who can do both, Haskell's in another league.

@owyn47998 жыл бұрын
Tbh he's 30 years old and he'll be 33 when the next world cup comes and with the quality of backrow England have, it'll be tough to make the squad.
@troopz39858 жыл бұрын
age isn't on his side then
@vonteflon8 жыл бұрын
Disagree. The bloke seems to be ageing like a good wine. Yes, there is a huge amount of competition for backrow places, but I wouldn't discount Hask on the basis of age; Offside Rich was 34 when NZ won the last world cup. Next England captain after Hartley will surely be Owen Farrell.
@owyn47998 жыл бұрын
vonteflon Isn't Vunipola not vice captain? I'd give it to Itoje or Kruis tbh keep it in the tight five.
@vonteflon8 жыл бұрын
+MagicSince 98 Not sure. I believe there are usually 2-3 vice captains, one of which I am sure is Farrell, who is growing into a very authoritative general. I don't really mind what position the captain plays: logically though, it is difficult lead from a back-three position; nos. 6 to 10 I think have the best visibility and involvement in all aspects of the game. Locks seem to make good captains though, perhaps simply through being big, gnarly motherfuckers who lead from the front. Itoje and Kruis fit that mould; Itoje has shown himself to be a fantastic motivator as well. And he really is an awesome player. If he's not England captain for the 2019 World Cup I'll be amazed. I hope the media give him a chance to just get in with his game for the next year or two, but from what I've seen so far he looks perfectly capable of dealing with the pressure.

Who would say Haskell is England's Chabal?
@Tenereus9 жыл бұрын
Not really - Chabal was known for being a hard-hitting player who was very much there as a highly effective scare tactic due to his heavy hits and strong carries. Haskell these days is like Tom Wood, but with more strength and less lineout prowess - lots of carries, tackles and turnovers.

Unfortunate timing for a comment - seems you made this before the 2016 six nations grand slam and series win away to Australia, in both of which Haskell was massively influential. A combination of George Smith's mentoring at Wasps (he'll be missed) and Eddie Jones's empathy and coaching attitude with England has really brought the best out of Haskell.
