Suffering for instance, in terms of burrnin in your own flames can be very productive for development of our cognitive skills if we stop being afraid of burning in our own flames and give our life a chance.Notting can be as bad as it sounds..Usually the outcome of most catastrophies is alot less destructive and less scarry than expected..Besides working hard toward a goal and being a little fateful at the same time, we should always keep seeking an alternative way of thinking..

Doesn't matter at what age we arrive at these truths; it's just that we do. If one's house is on fire what does it matter how long we exist in the burning house before the flames are extinguished? ALL that matters is that we in fact escape. Lending some perspective on my response is the fact that I am soon to be 78. Thank you for that beautiful interview, and thank you Dr. Hollis🤗

Can anyone speak further to Mr. Hollis' comments regarding what Jung wrote? That is, "sometimes the experience of conflict or suffering is proof that you're living your life well. In those moments, the opposites are being honored". Fascinating concept.

The Dude 2014: I've heard this as Jung saying, "Conflict means you're going in the right direction," and it has been useful for me to remember that, more than once. Some conflict is created by people treating 'as you used to be', so it means that one is growing (up).

It is not pleasant for the ego to see things which are hidden from it. Ego defence mechanisms happen for a reason; some truths have the potential for swamping consciousness, particularly in youth. The moment of facing your problems is maybe worst than trying to find a solution, because you behold them in all their foul glory. If you were to seriously undertake a campaign of honesty against yourself and see all of your issues at once it would be a hard moment. Once you have awareness of your issues, however, you are in a state of motivation - the only path is uphill from there. Being unaware of your problems is a state of helplessness. Consciousness is both the problem and the solution. Consciousness grants us the power to change our patterns, even those which lie deep within the psyche, but it is not an easy path. As Jung said, the path inwards is hidden and narrow; the journey will only be completed by those with the greatest need and the most sincere intentions.

She asks James how we know what God's will is. This seems strange to me since in reading many of James' books it's clear that he has no love of organized religion. In many ways he reminds me of Joseph Campbell. The word God for James means something very different from what it probably means for the host. It's refreshing to find a man of profound wisdom who has rejected religious dogma. Keep up the good work James.

It all starts with a radically sharp self evaluation of your own..One should give a hand to his ego,observe his skills,and uncover his joys to figure out who they want to be..Most of the times, quite a few of is brave enough to make such an evalution since we have fears.What he means by mysterious is that human development and the life are very multi contextual and multi dimensional because there are too many unexpected incidents out there that have a significant impact on our lives..

@LiveOakOkie Thank you for your reply. God is ever speaking. My issue concerns the infallibility of the Bible and those who speak for God. If one cannot trust one's own intuition (to a degree), then one must fall back on the testimony of others, who have their own problems, reactions, and lenses through which they see the world. God transcends our experience, including those who fit themselves behind a banner, symbol, or formula. It is a hard but gratifying path.

@jestermoon There will always be people who can not extend their awareness beyond the narrow view of an ego-bound world. Christianity will always carry a deeply sewn message of Fear, to fear hell to fear the holy father, however these concepts are used by people who's lifetime may not be about going deep into their own psyches. In Matt 5:17-18 He commands following of the Torah "until heaven and earth pass away," but the Apostles dispensed with Mosaic Law, & Paul condemned following the Law. Christ contradicts Himself not only by calling the Pharisees fools, for they are His brothers (see Matt 5:22 again) in Judaism, but in the spirit of Matt 5:43-48. The Bible is not perfect, written by men, and you know this. Now: actually grow close to God, instead of a black leather idol.

I know it's been 11 years, but I'm responding just in case you're still curious. We are 21 centuries from the Birth of Christ (year 0 in our calendar). Of course, the world existed before Christ was born, so we can count backwards from 0 to measure those years. 100 years before Christ would be 1 century before Christ (B.C.) or 22 centuries ago. 26 centuries ago would be about 500 years B.C.
