Thanks Laura, unfortunately I’d put the tools in my lockup and sold the van. I’d completely forgotten that my tools insurance was tethered to my van insurance (which had been cancelled by that point) so I couldn’t claim a penny.

We gave him loads of tools and they got stolen. I am not sure he wants to risk it again but we are happy to lend him what he needs. It is just that he needs a more secure place to keep them. Thieves return for a second helping.

Shame about the tools though, a right kick in the teeth to have that happen - unfortunately when people buy second hand with no questions asked, there's a market for them (same with anything really). I’ve done a diy renovation over the past 2-3 years and so many people tell me to join the building contractor trade. Of course I say ‘no way’… when professionals like James struggle with the industry, there’s no hope for me. And I would also be doing a disservice as i might be a good DIY’er but I cannot justify taking peoples money to do a botched job.
