Having spent my life on an of in construction in the UK and here in New Zealand I can say that the industry is full of lovely blokes. Problem is the people who run it, most of them are deeply unpleasant human beings which is why it’s so stressful where money is concerned. So my advice to anyone watching this is when you find a good builder who is also a good bloke, pay him well, look after him and you will get pay back in buckets.

We had same issue with the doors. Building control just said put wired smoke alarms in each bedroom.
@SkillBuilder5 жыл бұрын
They are a lot more inclined to go with interlinked smoke alarms now. There was a time they wanted door closers.

We called them chick tiles I found a box of them on a job years ago but the packaging had a bar code on it so they must have been still making them up until the mid eighties?

I put my boiler in the attic and ran the condensate out into the soil stack. Then the beast from the east struck and I found myself up a ladder with a heat gun. Condensate now run inside the house.
@SkillBuilder5 жыл бұрын
Yes it can be a problem. If it is run outside it has to be short and well wrapped up.
@justbreakingballs3 жыл бұрын
Mine froze up in the beast from the east too but I just temped up a bypass into the alley then reconnected when it warmed up. That beast from the east was something else it's never frozen before or after again

Roger, why do you like to SEE pipes on the outside?
@SkillBuilder5 жыл бұрын
We were talking about the gas pipe run up the outside. Once it is painted black is not that obtrusive. I really meant that gas is better run outside where it can't be damaged by people nailing through it etc.

Be wise to knock those nails back through the floorboards before they injure someone
@justbreakingballs3 жыл бұрын
Always best to pull a nail through a board than knock it back out. Doing it that way stops the nail splitting and damaging the top of the board. I tend to knock the nail through the board with a parallel punch before I even cut the board then when the board is cut up it just lifts out.
