Roger in his 70's still likes to learn new stuff, and keeps on educating himself in all sorts of different things. Neither does he want to retire yet! Respect to you

I’ve been a professional plasterer for over 20 years. My initial training was a 2 week course… I still learn new things but efficiency is the key. The easier an quicker you can do the job the better. Personally I can go left to right and vice versa so that’s a bonus. What is definitely missing from this though is always wear safety glasses - it was never taught to me but I found out the hard way. Dust mask is handy for mixing indoors too. Blending also. If you can fade the gear onto an existing surface so that it doesn’t need sanding or filling to hide the edge then any job is possible. Flexi trowels are a godsend these days so I’ve become an expert at it and I get calls from builders especially for that reason. I started with a B and Q trowel and I still use the same one for laying on all these years later.. (it’s a bit worn down). A speedskim sometimes is handy as well for a ceiling if the room is empty. Good video though.

Kirk how do you know how many bags to do for a certain size area .? Can you do a vid on this cheers

Thank you for an interesting video. Are you using glass fibre scrim tape on the joints. I always wear gloves when using that tape because the fibres can go into my skin.

Roger, you missed your calling mate. You look happy whenever you are behind a trowel, on on your travels

We don't do finished plastering on plasterboards in Germany. It's too expensive. Fill the plasterboard joints, fill the screw holes, sand, and repeat three times. Coat with adhesive, Primer and emulsion paint.
@Samedi321 күн бұрын
Yep, all in all, it's a technological backstep to make a perfectly flat and even surface again flat and even. Plus, it's bloody time-consuming, which means extra cost, as you mentioned. And messy.

In Poland it's the opposite. Plasterboards are usually skimmed

You guys forgot Step No 1 - hit the gym and build those shoulder muscles 💪
@riptiz22 күн бұрын
It’s the same direction when welding on fillet welds. Right handed, work from the left. Probably it’s a physiological reason as well just as a screw is right handed for efficiency when tightening a screw.

Yup. Right handed man with right hand thread uses biceps. Left hand thread wouldn't. Forearm muscles instead.

I've got the impression that the younger guy is putting a bit more material on the wall and his trowel os flatter. That said, I can't wait to try the technique

That depends on your nationality and language. Many go from right to left

Why do British plasterers not fill the joints with jointing compound first? Pretty sure it will crack pretty fast with just a mesh tape plastered over?
@plumpii717721 күн бұрын
Half a bucket? A 15L bucket of water will mix one 25kg bag of plaster..

I guess I don’t understand why you’re still using plaster? I’ve been doing drywall finishing for 45 years in America When I used to go to London in the 80 s I used to show guys how to finish I thought you would have caught on by now

Drywall is garbage compared to plaster.
@douglasreid69921 күн бұрын
with drywall you rely a lot on the plaster board not being damaged, which can happen quite often from what i have seen from the time i spent in the trade. new houses being built are starting to adopt drywall more but there is also the historic preference of people that actually like the smoothness of a finished wall with plaster. also a plastered wall gives more fire protection for fire regs from what i know. when i worked in a timber frame factory, the panels that divided a semi detached house we would need to plaster board them and fill the joints, but so many people in the factory hated the job and didnt care, using damaged boards, put boards on back to front, the good old "its not my house". where as i worked for my dad who was a slater and plasterer, i learned how to plaster, i had the pride in my work which made be a bit slower than them. i have seen drywall finish videos of them putting it on, sanding it down, putting more on and sanding it down. but i prefer a plastered wall, i find it is a better finish. my parents (mum and step dad) renovated their house during covid, they used drywall finish, fill the gaps and got a finish they are happy with, but i notice where the joins are and it annoys me, i dont notice the joins when i plaster a wall.
