joe adams Arturo Sandoval is a VERY close second, maybe even better when it comes to trumpet. His range is probably an octave above and below that of Morrison's, but his overall soloing ability is lacking in complexity conspired to Morrison.

Some information about this video: It´s the RIAS (= Radio in the American sector of Berlin) Big Band. It´s leader is Horst Jankowski, who is perhaps known for his sixties hit "A walk in the Black Forest" (kzbin.info/www/bejne/sILUeXaYZpuAhMk). Before he was pianist in the band of Erwin Lehn, which accompanied Miles Davis at his frist performance, that was filmed (12-18-1957 in Stuttgart = kzbin.info/www/bejne/pZyudZyMgdOsfrs).

Which sound technician at the RIAS Berlin Radio was mixing the soundtrack of Horst Jankowskis Bigband? They should have known James Morrison plays an airpressure trumpet with an incredible good sound and 16-th notes, so the Neumann condenser mike was completely overloaded. This marvelous record was made before 1989, there ended the German Democratic Republic with it’s breakdown and the trademark of the Berlin „Radio Im Amerikanischen Sektor Von Berlin“ RIAS Berlin ended too and was merged to the SFB. On the bigband‘s tone stands still the RIAS-Berlin logos can be seen. The moderator of the Show was the unforgotten Horst Jankowski ( 1936-1998 ) a famous German jazz Piano player, known as «Jakob » or Mr Blackforest. His „walk in the Black Forest“ was his trademark and can be heard, played and recorded by the Erwin Lehn SDR Tanzorchester at the Süddeutsche Rundfunk 1965 always today in the German radios. RIP👍😂
