The worst thing in the UK is calling a racist person a racist. The British think the label of racist is worse than actual racism.
@Formakiwi
@Formakiwi 6 жыл бұрын
Partly it's an inability to recognise many of the deeply racist, inbuilt qualities of their national culture: a willingness to consider other peoples, races and countries to be inherently inferior or comedic; an ability to evade any notion of accountability for anything, preferring to blame others for the negative results of their own misgovernment; the arrogance and misconception bred by continual whitewashing of history through every cultural outlet, especially concerning the European wars of the 20th Century; the veneration of their colonial past, the true cost to world affairs of which is still to be fully reckoned, and the brutal ignorance of other cultures that underpins all of the above, the effect of which is like a thick intellectual comforter - allowing them to continually nurture their feelings of aggrieved greatness and manifest destiny beneath a blanket of total self-absorption.

@Anglo McWhitey That's like saying take away the inventions of the middle east from Europe, eg. Brick buildings, wheel , algebra, navigation, gunpowder, etc. (or for that matter the folded book format from MALI) The fact that you got it from somewhere (like all of human history) doesn't mean they get to control or own your land. By that logic, Norwegians use the internet for a lot of their way of life. Should the US have rights to do whatever in Norway, since US DARPA invented it?

25 years back or so, the UK was seen as such a big mix of people and cultures that was welcomed. As an Irishman, when 'those people' came here, we welcomed them. We work side by side and enjoy their cuisine in their dining rooms and restaurants. Made friends for life, families intertwined. Seems that the UK isn't so united or great anymore. I was wrong to vote Leave. I felt it in the pit of my stomach when the results were being read out. I started out a remainer and changed early on so I could take part in a contrarian fantasy, I thought I was an intellectual. It was a rush to debate people on social media. When I saw Boris Johnson’s victory speech, I could tell he was shocked and sobered just like me. I knew that Brexit before referendum day was a euphoric mania, it felt great to be a part of. After the referendum, Brexit is a spiral of depression and unraveling delusion.

Doctors are being encouraged to leave actually. It's a pensions issue. In short if you work as a doctor your pension contributions are mobile. You can move them around without penalty due to treaties. So somebody works in Belgium for 5 years Netherlands for 5 years then UK for 10 years treaties state they have worked in any of those countries they have chosen for 20 years. Post brexit the Belgium and Netherlands contributions are given back to the doctors meaning they have to pay 40% income tax on it AND lose all growth on the contributions for that period. My cousin for instance a Chinese woman who now works in Shenzhen. She works here because she was called a diversity hire and she left the NHS. She worked in Spain for a couple years. She ended having to pay about £13000 extra tax..

@G. V. Quinn it is the repeated economic-political model that repeats over...whether its the 1930's or now. The demagogues construct an 'enemy'...'its their fault', For Bush its the Mexicans for Farage (who attended a neo Nazi meeting today) its the EU and its immigrants. Right wing politics emerges from austerity. Especially when it hits the pension pots of the middle class. If people only educated themselves rather than take anecdotal evidence these demagoues would have have no voice. But no, the mass public who are emotional thinkers jump to conclusions without evidence. The evidence they cite is usually anecdotal and then generalised

@TheFelltimber
@TheFelltimber 6 жыл бұрын
@@porkyturner272 with respect...the employees were interviewed and some mentioned they were told it factored into the decision. It's not the diesel argument either since 94% of cars at that plant are petrol. Some have suggested its a cultural politeness intrinsic to Japanese not to offend....which is believable but not defendable. I am only interested in the evidence....consider the expense of teh supply chain to Japan or maintaining the current short supply chain without the need to train a whole new workforce. Then having to ship those vehicles back to the UK again for sale. One can easily suggest the decision is profit based and then cheaper option is to mkve operations back to Japan rather than stay and financially endure a hard Brexit. That is quite a realisation if true. The given reason of falling diesel demand doesn't stack up with only 6% of cars produced being diesel. Why withdraw production of the 94% petrol models? I think the principle of Occums razor is the best conclusion to take.

The four freedoms are a forced law, as they are unable to be changed democratically. The EU is an ideology promoted by the majority of our government and by EU governments. It’s moving in a direction that I don’t like and want to change that. I believe a directly elected government system is more democratic and gives me greater influence over a system that is run by the unelected commission and the unelected presidents. I have zero influence on how the EU is operating. Our politicians and the EU as a whole are pushing for globalisation and the intergration of Africa and The Middle East into Europe. It’s not a future that will be healthy for my grandchildren.
@DrawingNo1
@DrawingNo1 5 жыл бұрын
As James O'Brien says , give me an example of a law imposed by the EU that makes you worse off. If we leave we will still have to trade with the EU and produce goods to their standards or do you want to import and export inferior products? I presume of the four freedoms , immigration is most important to you? We can already repatriate EU citizens after three months if they don't have a job. You may not like our immigration policy but that is down to our UK politicians not the EU. If we remove those with jobs who is going to pick the crops - and don't say we should get all the UK unemployed to commute to Kent every day as has been said to me by a brexiter. If it's mainly brown people you don't like then what has that to do with the EU? As for democracy in this country how much influence does a Tory vote in Bristol or a Labour vote in Surrey have - zero! Our queen is head of state but is unelected - how is that democratic? The Euro is probably flawed but we opted out so that is not a problem for us. To repeat - give me one law imposed by the EU that has made you worse off?
@gdfggggg
@gdfggggg 5 жыл бұрын
DrawingNo1 We don’t need the EU to be able to make and export high quality goods and we don’t need the EU to be able to import high quality goods from the country’s we choose without the common external Tariff applied. If we leave the EU it would be in everyone’s interest to make trade as frictionless as possible, obviously, but I’m confident in time, the intransigent EU politicians will have to come to their senses as they would be effected just as we would as I’m sure the German car industry and others would be putting pressure on their governments to get things sorted. Our non EU immigration policy is government policy, our EU immigration policy is EU rules; an EU citizen can jump on a bus and come in, no questions asked. Do you really think our (globalist) government has the will and facilities to locate every non working EU citizen and deport them? Would never happen, a massive undertaking. EU citizens will still come in post Brexit to work, just not I’m the massive unregulated numbers we currently have. Pay will begin to rise and the work will become more inciting for British workers. Brown people? What are you on about? I have issues with the backward and conservative ideology of Islam. Anybody of any colour can become a Muslim. In a modern and western ideology, islam will only drag us backwards. The integration of Islam into the Britain has been an unmitigated disaster as explained beautifully by ex Muslim terrorist Maajid Nawaz on his LBC radio show. You must read the declaration of Barcelona and Marrakesh to get a grasp of future EU intention. Staying in the EU will only make these issues far worse in the future. Our democracy is not perfect, I agree, but it gives me more influence to shape things than being a member of the undemocratic EU. An appreciation for democracy will create a more peaceful country, which seems to be lacking at the moment as people want to overturn the outcome of a democratic referendum. Our queen is our head of state but she has zero influence on government direction and is more of a symbol than anything else. As to how EU rules effect me; that is a straw man argument. When we leave the EU I’ll ask you the same question - now we’ve left the EU what rules have made you worse off, you won’t be able to answer the question. You could argue that being in the EU has created slow economic growth as it’s a old fashioned model wrapping business in red tape, the growth has been abysmal when compared to other countries outside the EU. And the assumption that staying in the EU will be good for our economy? It’s in a mess.

I know many of them don't want to be considerd racist and maybe some don't even realise they are but I suggest they take a good hard look into a mirror and see what they've become, it's not a pretty sight and this feeling is being picked up from around the world that the UK is becoming more racist thanks to Brexit. The easiest way to tell that they are is to have an arguement with one, start bombarding them with facts and watch how quickly they turn, start getting angry and how the arguement always comes down to immagration and foreign people, it happens a lot with them, heck, the main arguement of the Brexit debate before the vote was more or less based on that. The sad reality is that a lot more people are racist that don't even know they are, Brexit in the UK just brings it to the surface just like whats going in in the US with Trump is bringing it to the surface over there. I know I should be proud of my own country but thats becoming harder to do with everything I'm seeing over the last few years.

Well, you gotta replace the cheap labour done by the poles somehow... But in all honesty: It is a good plan to seek out closer ties to other countries outside the EU, because the trade with them will have to do a lot of heavy lifting to keep Britain "fed" (as in "well supplied with all vital goods"). The largest 10 economies outside the EU don't even account for a third of the UK's foreign trade. It's not like the EU dropped a tenner and Ghana can pick it up for you...

I am Black and I voted to leave. Explain to me Mr O'Brian how I am a racist. My vote to leave was based on two concerns: 1) The effects of EU discrimination against countries outside the EU is disporportionately affecting countries in Arica and he Caribbean economically and will continue to do so. 2) Britain is being sucked into a left leaning super state that the people didn't vote for when they joined in the 70's. I cannot understand how white people can be 'racist' against other white people, which essentially is what the EU is made up of. They might be prejudice but surely not racist! I agree with some of the posts that find most left wingers hypocrites; they rile against those who have whilst secretly wishing they had it too. Happier out than in?. I'm quite sure the vast majority of people, who voted , brexit know how bad it will be when we leave. I also know that when you have nothing making it worse will have little impact. If you are a working couple living in poverty. If you're on low pay employment. If your politicians continue to follow economic policies which extend decades long wage stagnation. If you see corrupt bankers walking free. Corporates dodging taxes etc etc. If you watch politicians always willing to lie and insult your intelligence. The huge rise in distrust in the media, the judiciary, the police over decades and if you see it also reflected in the politics of the E.U. then why not brexit. The system is broken. Blow it up because, in essence, that is how people feel except, maybe, the metropolitan elites who live in nice suburbs and do not feel the impact of all these things.

Add into the equation ever increasing automation and the fact we are simply a service industry nation then you have a recipe for extreme politics especially when politiciand here and in europe fail to tackle it. I looked up the word racism in the dictionary and I don't see what's so bad about it. If James O'Brien likes facts so much, let me give him some: White people and non-white people are not the same. FACT There are some characteristics and traits which are specific to certain races. FACT Men are not equal. FACT Some cultures are better than others. FACT I prefer my own kind and I do not want to be the same as non-white people. It is not always about being superior or inferior, it is just about being different. I'm told by the media that I should celebrate diversity and that is exactly what I do. I celebrate and protect my English/White culture. By the way, if James O'Brien loves the black man so much, why does he live in Chiswick, an area which is mainly white? The same goes for other virtue-signallers like Emma Thompson. They tell us how much they love non-whites but they live in areas which are mainly, if not exclusively, white.

If James O'Brien wants to talk about racism he would do well to bear in mind that racism exists everywhere on this Earth, to a lesser or greater degree. If you look the word up in a dictionary it makes no mention of it being specific to one particular ethnic group. White people can be subjected to racism from non-white people as well. And non-white people can also be racist towards each other. There was a story a few years ago about a Chinese airline which warned Chinese tourists coming to London against visiting parts of the capital which have a high concentration of blacks and Indians. The Indians didn't like it of course because they got lumped in with the blacks. There are other cases as well, like the untouchables in India whom are treated so appallingly, which is a form of racism against their own people and the waymthe Israelis treat the Palestinians. The long and the short of it is that racism exists in other parts of the world.

Foreigners?? Lol. Britains been full of them since before jesus was a boy. Britannia is Latin. Named by Italians after a part of france. The normans, Danes Vikings etc etc etc. As a brit, I see our diversity is where the "great" bit comes in.

The letter JOB read was from an older person.....this is the voice of a person who is not used to seeing different face. It just did not happen when he/she was younger. What people really mean is that immigration has now reached biblical proportions and the stresses and strains on our systems are now at their highest. It is not racism to say "sorry, we have no more room" or "let us deal with what we have at the moment, then we can open up again and welcome you in". This is not racism, it is realism. I dislike the fact that any criticism, however polite, of current policy in this area is furiously stamped upon without debate and examination - it is immediately labelled "racist" and consigned to the bin. Therein lies the problem. Basic physics tells you that a pint jug can only hold a pint - not 1.1 pints. Therefore, as an example: Housing stock = 2,000,000 Demand = 2,500,000 result.....not enough. NHS capacity = 1.5 million beds. Demand = 2 million result......waiting lists longer....surgeries full, etc. School places = 450,000 each year Demand = 1 million result......kids not getting school places/overcrowded classrooms. It is not racist....neither is it rocket science. Only realism. Nobody is unwelcome here, but when does "full" mean "full"?
