I think his obsession with Greek mythology has to do with the false perception of ancient Greece being "a gay utopia." Sure, homosexuality was accepted, even praised as being the purest form of love, but that was only for homosexuality among men. In fact, the reason male gay relationships were considered so great was because they believed women were intellectually inferior, therefore any relationship between a man and a woman couldn't be equal in their eyes. Thinking about it, the misogyny is also probably a reason he loves Greece so much.

I found out this morning from another KZbinr I followed covering Somerton, like wow...he let so many people either think he ended himself or decide they didn't want to say anything just incase it turned out he did and he comes back in this sneaky way? I'm glad he didn't, but I still groan he hasn't learned a damn thing. EDIT - the people claiming plagerism isn't such a bad thing think its on the same level as just looking over at your classmates answers to a test and copying those, when really its more like having your physical copy of an essay stolen from your desk and published under their name instead and they not only get top marks but also a publishing deal

@bbg385 yeah he clearly needs to go to therapy or something, and I mean that in a serious way not a 'take your meds dude' way some people like to throw around. I don't even believe the little meaningless things he's changed like his family situation etc and had people try to explain how his parents could have divorced and his dad still be on his mums life insurance policies and such, failing to understand that 1. He has gone from saying they divorced when he was a child to implying there were still together as his dad struggled with bills due to less income and problems with reading to then implying he has moved back with his 'parents' for a while, which I took to mean his dad remarried...so surely she should be helping him with his apparent reading issues? It's stuff thats so small in the grand scheme of things but thats how unbelievable he is at this point, and only nags me because he has used his mothers death and his fathers poverty as an excuse for stealing other people's work

I'm still so upset and heartbroken over the Somerton Saga. I never actually saw many of his videos, but I did go to many of his livestreams and he was so nice in those streams, and sometimes very insightful during discussions of media and all of that, but now we can plainly see it was all just... lies. And now this revelation? I can't believe I ever payed any attention to him. I feel so lied to. I hope he goes away and never returns.

I’ve been checking for news every now and then, not out of any version of giving a shit about him, and I really wouldn’t have guessed there was a possibility of this outcome. It’s a whole other level of fucked up manipulation. But the thing that really makes me furious is the fact that he has clearly now made a concerted effort to manufacture a different way to profit off whatever version of his content he’s allowing to remain online, and the worst part? He *promised* that he would be giving all the money made from the videos he plagiarised back to the creators, and i think the original version was direct payments and then he swiftly changed that to piggybacking off hbomberguy’s donations to them, and now he’s just erasing that from even being a possibility. Fucking vile.

It's so frustrating seeing soany people walk on eggshells because defenders will try and say he'll hurt hinself. If he harms himself because he's facongbthe consequences of his actions, that would be no one's fault or responsibility but his. He didn't worry about the mental health of people he stole from and had his minions attack, his defenders now son't care about the people they attack. If a thief breaks into your house and takes all your stuff, there is no one that will find out they got arrested and be like "They shouldn't get on trouble because they said they'll hurt themselves", that's nothing but emotional manipulation. It's so gross that he has any defenders at all. If he can't handle the consequences he should get offline and do literally anything else, his career is dead.

If one were to play armchair psychologist here with his obsession with Greek mythology, it could easily stem from the same type of self-aggrandizement by association that fascists do when they associate with ancient greek and roman culture and misrepresent what it is/was. Greek mythology, to a western audience, is pretty much the most basic low-level mythology you probably have some passing familiarity with outside of Christianity and similar to things like Shakespeare, we see the Greek epics as landmark pieces of cultural media. James fancies himself an intellectual and a thinker, and so it benefits HIM to self-identify with those greek philosophers and mythological figures and gives him undue grandeur to think that he is part of a lineage of storytelling down from the Ancient Greeks and carries on their legacy. Ironically, the height of hubris.

You know. I had to look him up, because I didn't know who you were talking about and as soon as I saw his picture I remembered watching a couple of his videos years ago. Hate to be 'hipster' about it and say I knew he was a twat back then, but he came off as pretentious and condescending, and my friend I watch stuff with was uncomfortable watching him, so unrecommended his channel and forgot about him until now. Not surprised there's drama around him. All I can say is someone else's mental health, legit or not, is not your responsibility. I think your anger is warranted but I think it's important to recognize that James' behavior is narcissistic; James may very well have Narcissistic Personality Disorder but if so that's kind of a bad reason to otherize him.
