Literally just found this channel the other day but he is one of the only people who I've ever been exposed to, that honors the true spirit of Christianity. Personally, I'm not a Christan and do not identify as a Christian even though I was baptized as an infant and grew up attending a Presbyterian church when I was younger. I couldn't handle the way the principle virtues of love that true Christianity embodied were warped by men over 2 millennia to serve themselves and their ambition, and whether in good faith or not, allowed it to become the very antithesis of everything the movement originally stood for. I doubt I will ever identify as a Christian or a person that subscribes to any singular organized religion... but the bedrock teachings of love above all else that are the foundations for true Christianity, before it was incarcerated by written word, are why this faith is so beautiful and integral to my moral core. I don't know if I've ever personally seen someone truly understand the spirit of this religion as I knew it could be, until I stumbled upon James and this channel, and I'm thankful I did

I got chills when he mentioned considering the experience of a Hindu child at a Texan school. I was that child. My parents came to this country proud to live in America and to contribute to the American spirit and work ethic. They also treasure the Hindu beliefs they brought with them across oceans. Those beliefs guided their strength faith and heritage, and they passed them on to me. I am American, Texan, and Hindu. However, until this video, I believed no Texan leader would likely ever consider my and my immigrant family's beliefs as valuable enough to provide space for. Since who could bother to think about the invisible number of us? It was easier to treat us as Other. I learned early on that I was an Other. Being a minority child in Texas, questioned over and over amongst peers, and feeling at odds between my familial culture & what others call "correct and normal" was a difficult identity to reckon with. I felt a lot of distrust growing up and had to defend my kind family's way of worship countless times. It also brought me unneeded shame and embarrassment of being different. Not to mention, listening to other children tell me that my family and I would all go to hell for eternity, even though we were good honest people, was terrifying and cruel. I had to grow up quickly to stand my ground. I certainly didn't think there were any adults that would protect kids like me. But at the end of the day, I felt protected by the sanctity of separation of church and state. I felt safe in who I was as an American because I knew religious freedom was a core part of being American. That's why the recent Texas governmental attempts to blur religion's boundaries with public school has alarmed me. What this man is advocating for is tremendous fairness in the face of radical restriction. I have so much respect and graciousness for him, as it takes a strong moral spirit to consider those with less of a voice and who may not appear exactly like you. America is a melting pot. It is beautiful because anyone can look any way, and still live as an American. I hope for more leaders like him, so Texas can pave a bright fair and diverse path for future generations. ❤

Bravo, Mr. Talarico! Please keep up your good work on behalf of all students and ALL religions and atheists. I grew up in a strict catholic home. When I became a mother; I decided to attend numerous different religious gatherings to see if there was one that I would feel comfortable exposing my children to. I did not find even one! So, I listened to my children's questions about why is the sky blue? Is there a God? Where do we go when we die? I responded to their questions in a manner that encouraged them to seek more information. I also prefaced everything that I said with, 'This is what I think'. You will find your own way as you grow. My 'children' are now in their 40s with their own kids. They did not join any organized religion. They respect other's religious choices. They have inquiring minds. They are critical thinkers. And they believe in science.
