How can such simple elementary chords be turned into such a beautiful haunting song? James Taylor Genius, that’s how!

The soundtrack of my childhood - what a blessing to have these videos - timeless and priceless. My dad was an amazing vocalist and solo guitarist, he used to crank JT up and fill the house when he’d learn these amazing songs…what I’d give to go back in time.

Life is so hectic, but James Taylor is one of only a handful of recording artists/singers that put me at peace almost immediately. So glad he’s been and always will be a part of my musical life. ‘Love Always’ 1 John 4:8

Two chords. It took two chords for James to compose this song. Sometimes true talent is making something so simple sound so beautiful.

Two chords...blows my mind

Well, to be clear, this song has a few more chords than the two he alternates between in the verse. Specifically, it has I think 5 more; they come at the end of the verse, after the "One-eyed seed of a tumbleweed" line, and carry through the line, "back on the highway, yeah, yeah, yeah...back on the road...", and on the word 'road' it returns to the two-chord change that obviously inspired him to write the song.

Playing piano, singing about you being the Traveling Man, and someday you would settle down. Makes me smile since you actually couldn’t stop traveling, but you did find your way to settle down, as much as you can. It’s so great for me that you’re still the Traveling Man! I’m about your age and love knowing that you never quit because life sometimes doesn’t give you a choice. 😉

I love the fact that the crowd while small is silent during the songs. It must be a British thing. In the US we’d be hooting and hollering taking away some the quality of the performance. That coupled with the amazing sound quality of these BBC recordings is what makes these videos a treasure.
