Lee Sklar (bass), Russ Kunkel (drums), along with fellow James Taylor's bandmates Danny "Kootch" Kortchmar (guitar and friend from teenager years...who introduced Carole King to James) Carole King (piano) joined James on that show/tour along with the band Jo Mama.. Danny Kortchmar (guitar) Abigale Harness (lead vocals and great voice) Joel O" Brien (drums)Ralph Schuckett (organ) and Charles Larkey (bass and previous husband to Carole). The story of all these people is very interesting...and truly amazing the twists/turns and luck that help shape many of their careers... As mentioned James and Kortchmar were friends since their teen years ..as they spent summers together on Martha's Vineyard vacationing with their respective families BTW Carly Simons family was from Martha's Vineyard and with her sisters were friends with James and Danny. James, Danny along with Zachary Wiesner (bass) and Joel O'Brien (drums) were The Original Flying Machine band in the mid 60's. They often played at the storied Night Owl Cafe Club in Greenwich Village. They made a few basic demos as well. Kortchmar's previous band was The King Bees with O'Brien(drums), Dickie Frank (bass) and John McDuffy organ...relevance will become clear in a few lines) After The Original Flying Machine broke up (Sweet dreams and Flying Machines and pieces on the ground..from Fire and Rain).. James went to London to play his music . While in London, James got the number of Peter Asher from Kortchmar... Asher was part of the famed British duo Peter and Gordon that Danny Kortchmar's band The King Bees earlier had backed up on their tour of the US and became great friends(still to this day) Asher was no longer performing but was the A&R director for newly founded Apple Records. Seems Peter Asher's sister ...model/actress Jane Asher was the girlfriend of the Beetles Paul McCartney. Paul would spend much time at the Asher's family home where Peter saw and heard Beetle hits being developed. Taylor played a demo tape for Asher who liked it enough to put it and James before a few of the Beetles. James Taylor was the first artist signed to Apple Records and cut the album James Taylor in 1968. Asher and Taylor soon left Apple Records and headed back to the US. The rest is music history! In the meantime Danny, Carole and Larkey had formed a group "The City" which recorded the album "Now That Everything's Been Said" in 1968. Very good album and if a Carole King fan worth getting ....but problems led to slow early sales so the group disbanded. Carole recorded a solo album in 1970 "Writer" with the help of her new friend James Taylor along with Jo Mama... Kortchmar, Ralph Schuckett ( organ) John Fischbach (Moog), Larkey, O/Brien and Haness ..plus Delores Hall King's Tapestry became a smash hit 1n '71 so she left James Taylors band...off to a HUGE solo career. King was replaced by Craig Doerge on keyboards in James band. Doerge along with Kortchmar, Kunkel and Sklar became James Taylors band..later known as The Section...famous studio and touring stars who played on hundreds of hits as well as the touring band for James, Jackson Browne, Linda Ronstadt and more. Each became a success on their own as well. The same time Tapestry was being recorded (1970) James Taylor was recording Sweet Baby James. Helping James was old friend Danny Kortchmar (guitar) Carole King (piano/vocals) Russ Kunkel (drums)Red Rhodes (steel guitar) John London (bass) Randy Meisner (bass guitar on "Country Road" and "Blossom") Bobby West (double bass on "Fire and Rain") Chris Darrow ( fiddle, violin)

Music was organic back then. Part of being human. Some of the best songs ever written. Back when we had long dark hair. Now we've all gone white haired. Still making great music. Great to see fellow bassist, Leland, so young here. A joy to hear another deep memory song.

Thank you Mr. Taylor, for sharing your beautiful music. 🎶 My son James & grandson Dylan have grown up listening to your sweet sounds and for that I’m very grateful. I’m now retired in NC enjoying a milder climate than where I was born, yet darker than when I arrived LoL. You likely followed the sun. ☀️ GBU Brother James. Thank you again for the many blessings your songs bring to me, mine & many others. ~

Nice song. It's especially frustrating when so-called friends only show up when they think you've got money, but before that you weren't even worthy of a simple "hello". Suddenly you are their best friend if maybe you can pay for their great aunt jemima to make that gig of all time, when meanwhile you just got ripped off AGAIN for something like your stimulus check that could have paid some bills and bought a little food. And then they judge you for being stingy. They need to look in the freaking mirror. Thank you, James, for letting me vent. God bless you and your music. Take care.
