I find 206 is much more easier to maintain compared to some other cars on its class. I used to own one 206 1.4 Auto 4 speed.. I damage the engine due to abusive usage and I swapped the motor into 1.6 while maintaining the 1.4 gearbox and its ECU and wires. its not a perfect conversion job, but definitely working great. Sold it to a close friend of mine and move back into my hometown and I really miss driving one. So I decide to get another 206 but this time I want to completely rebuild it back almost from scratch, along with few upgrades from Rear axle set from GTi and whole suspensions and brakes upgrades from RC and 307, Short Shifter, ECU Remap, new 1.6 motor, new comm2000s that support tip meter and cruise control etc etc. There are some hiccups along the road but with the help from European forums and some expert help from another country, thankfully I manage to solve some issues. Electrical gremlin still exist, but I can live with it. Hopefully soon all will be done. I'm stil looking for some upgrade parts, mainly rubber bushings, seats, steerings and some other stuffs. got to source them all from overseas since where I live these cars have been absolutely abandoned because workshops doesnt know how to fix them.. Wish me luck !

I still keep my first brand new one that I bought back in 2006. It's a 2 liter HDi, 3 door XS with sunroof, onyx black top trim model I took advantage of its ease of parts interchangeability to upgrade it over the years to a full late leather interior, a RDE level 2 head unit with steering controls, a 208 steering wheel, a diesel GTi gauge cluster, cruise control, powered folding mirrors, retrofit phase one grill, wide wings, Atlantis 17" alloys, big front brakes and complete SW rear axle with disc brakes I've done full maintenance on it myself including changing the oring set for the fuel pump that gave up after 12 years of burning high sulphur diesel On the negative and aside from known suspension issues, I'd say engine mounts are rather wimpy. Minor problems I had with mine: the plastic support for the gear knob disintegrated, had to reprogram the BSi once because of a dead battery and the rear wiper motor failed

Just bought my first car and it's Peugeot 206. I'm in Indonesia btw, my father previously had Peugeot 505 before he bought a Toyota Startlet. I really want to have a European car, even though in Indonesia the repair cost is lil bit expensive. When I did my research, I found Peugeot 206 and fell in love with it. I spent 9 months looking for a proper car with an acceptable price and now It's in my garage. 2 months and I really enjoy this car.

Good video. Also worth noting the 206 has a tough, rust resistant bodyshell. You'll rarely see a badly rusted 206 (unless it's been badly repaired). Popular in countries with bad roads as the shell shrugs off potholes - albeit on lower spec models. Can confirm they are easy to repair although changing the clutch cable can result in the use of 'colourful metaphors' due to lack of space at the pedalbox. I've run a 2004 1.1i as a commuter hack for six years and it's been pretty painless to run until E10 petrol. It dropped to 42mpg so tried it on E5 for the last few months and now averaging 49mpg tank to tank but that's keeping it at 65 on motorway. The fuel savings justify the higher cost of E5...at the moment. The short 5th gear means 3400rpm at 70 so not much point going faster because it just gets noisier and more thirsty.
@PiggyPower
@PiggyPower 2 жыл бұрын
The rust is one of the 10 in the video! AFAIK they work fine on E10. E5 from E0 is a bigger % change than E5 to E10. Worth trying some E0. Esso's 97octane E5 is actually ethanol free in most parts of the country 😜

I'm 17 and French, I know absolutely NOTHING about cars, but since I'm coming of age for driving I'm currently looking for what car to own as well as learning the driving code, and I've seen a lot of people talking about the Peugeot 206 (which my mom drives and has been driving for 7 years now), and never have I seen anyone complain about it. Although I'm sure it's got its cons, overall it does look very good especially for beginner drivers, which I will be at some point. Thank you, this video was very helpful!

@@PiggyPower thank you! I watched the video where you talk about the cons of a 206, and I just wanna say, regarding the AC, it's mostly a problem of previous owners not doing a good job maintening the ac good so it can get "broken" with time. My mom's 206 has functioning ac, and I think it could be a problem with most cars that are getting kinda old. Really enjoy the videos though, thanks again!

I currently own two 306 2.0 XSi and in the last year or two, been getting more people walking up my drive and knocking on my door to ask if I wanted to sell them. They both are now shedding clear coat like crazy, and not looking cosmetically their best but does not seem to deter people asking. They seem to be very rare now compared to a few years ago. It's mostly either diesel models or GTi that are available, the latter has always gone for silly money.

I've had great fun messing about in mine. I personally wish I had got a 1.6HDi instead of the 1.4HDi as it's still in the dirt cheap £30 tax bracket but with alot more potential however I never saw any of those that came up in the price range and condition I was looking for. I got mine really cheap in fairly nice condition and done quite a few small things and a few bigger tasks. Only things that I would note is that the lower balljoints can be pain to work on the suspension without the right tool but once I bought this massive suspension arm tool off eBay for £20, I could change the front spring in an afternoon, that the doors sound a bit tinny and fitting a shortshifter (very cheap on eBay) makes the gearchange so much better. Only things to go wrong was a £10 MAP sensor, a £20 crankshaft pulley and in my case a slipping clutch but I think I just got a bit unlucky as it's higher mileage and original. (Hoping won't be too hard to fit the new one) For under £1000, cheap to run and fun (not so much in my 1.4hdi, needs more power haha, remap? but handling is great!) Can't really go wrong.

My 206 GTi 2003 has been the worst purchase i've ever made for a daily driver and it's not even close. Everything is slowly failing, it's rusting out completely in the back, ABS is not working, CV boot has torn, clunks everywhere, AC is bad, steering is stiff, brake booster is pushing air out of the brake master cylinder so it sounds like an air leak all the time, exhaust is rusted out and barely hanging on, bad contact in the blinkers lever, and so on. The best part is it only has 100k miles and it's in this shape.. Only good thing about the car is that it's awesome in the corners, steers very well. But also not much better than a 97 civic I had, which worked like a charm.

Although I'd say... They are a superb design that has lasted 20yrs... And takes 3hrs to replace the entire rear suspension.

got to be totally honest... EVERY car in the world has reasons to not buy one... the 206... not too tricky. The driving position, the way it looks, they are tatty now, low spec, poor quality build.... etc. Thanks for no thumbs dowm!

@@PiggyPower the only thing I really don't like in my 206 GTI is the gear knob that is elastic and not accurate and the steering wheel that doesn't provide any feedback (compared to a mk1 focus that I have as well). Other than that I really like it especially with my Bilstein b14 coilovers and the Michelin PS3s

Need something sorting with the suspension setup then, as with the gti suspension the front end is super responsive and great for feedback! If the gearknob isnt good, try replacing the worn out linkages and bushing!

It's all relative. We all have to drive. Some of the 206s have the £35 a year tax and would be £300 or so a year to insure...and do 50+mpg. Tough to beat that for £1000 buy it price

@@PiggyPower hmm with that low tax that's pretty awesome. I wish it was still 25 year old cars that get no tax. Should be with all the lithium batteries killing kids in the Congo down the mines. Keep old cars on the road. Fat better for the planet.
