James, Loving this series. 1 thing I want to tell you in case you didn't realize what all your videos do. They instill confidence for us to achieve our goals. Everyone tells you how great they are, thank you but I wanted to tell you that you are making me a better CNC operator and providing me with the confidence to dive into something that before your breakdowns, is just overwhelming. I am 55 years old and by no means computer or software savvy, but I can say that I am confident that my CNC journey will be much smoother with all the effort and time you put into these videos. FOR THAT, I personally thank you.

I really appreciate your tutorial. If I may make a suggestion. No one seems to start in the beginning of the Cnc journey, which is to make a spoil board. I chose a spoil board with tnuts. And with your tutorial I should Be able to figure it out so thank you. However for me personally it would be super nice if someone would make a tutorial on the spoil boards in an easy step by step process. For those who understand this it is easy for thick folks like myself a 1,2,3 guide is a great introduction. Your videos are the best I’ve run across so far. You are a good teacher.

Wow, 2 simple shapes and 2 simple tool paths using same tool, lol, I know I will be much faster when I digest all this software with repetition for cnc machines, but it is quite cumbersome compared to laser and Lightburn. It will take me a long time to create the ideas in my head on cnc compared to laser as I'm back to square one learning and practice wise, but it will no doubt be worth it to have computer controlled precision to materials and options that laser can't do. Thank you very much for saving me so much time getting my 4030 V1 and Carveco setup and running, as you already know, you're an awesome resource for the community!

At 26:33 you pocketed out the words and started the information filling. I have several different words in several different locations on the material I'm using. Your videos are excellent and very helpful. I have set two computers up and followed your video 1 and video 2 to create. Mine will not follow yours exactly. I finally, after 3 attempts of following, got to the last save (doing the simple name placard) and go to save only to be told Carveco cannot save because no tool path has been created. Ugh! Oh well, 4th attempt to follow you exactly coming up. I am 74 years old but I can still learn. Thank you so much for your time and effort.

Hello. I came here for this as well. Seeing your comment is only 5 days old, I wonder if it may be something with the program. It will not create a tool path for the pocket for me either. EDIT: Found another comment with same issue. JDD replied and mentioned tool size may be to big. Changed my size smaller and it worked. It could be the font, as the one Im using is different. Im just following along for direction, not to actually make at this time, but this was good to know.

So the one thing I didn’t see in this video ….when you completely cut through an object, is that object spaced off the bed when you clamp it? Or are you clamping the piece directly Onto the bed? Is the router that exact where it can cut all the way through and not contact the bed of router below?
@JamesDeanDesigns8 ай бұрын
It's all depends on your machine. My preferred hold down method is blue tape and glue, I had my machine dialled on so I could cut through the wood, the first layer of tape and leave no marks on the bed. But typically when you clamp your material directly, you would could through you material into a spoilboard. May only be by 0.2mm or something small but that is the reason for spoilboards

The layout is correct but the depth is off. I need 1.6 mm of depth and the holes are only going about half a deep. Thinking maybe my probe setting off but I checked it at 15mm and it's correct. Also I'm using the offline controller. Any ideas? Thanks ahead of time.

Great tutorial! I had one snag. When I selected my text to create the 2D area clearance, I keep seeing the message of "No toolpath created for the current tool" - I'm not using the same font as the video, but I don't see why that would matter. Thoughts?
@JamesDeanDesigns Жыл бұрын
Thank you. That could be because the size of the font is too small or the bit you're using is too large to remove any material

Great videos, I could really use some help! When using carveco maker And doing a 3D machine relief , Where do I position my zed axis When starting the finishing tool path ? Do I set it at the Original Zed "0" or do I set it up the newly machined level of the roughing pass? Thanks so much! Look forward to your videos, Keep up the great work!
@JamesDeanDesigns Жыл бұрын
So ideally you want to set your z height at a part of the job that isn't going to be machined, or certainly not on the roughing pass anyway. For example if you were doing a 3d relief circle on a block of wood, you would set the Z height on one of the corner outside of the circle. If I am machining the entire piece then I sometimes use an offcut in order to set the height. If you try setting the height for the finishing on a part that has already been machined it will throw everything off

That is correct. Different CNC machines operate on different languages. Carveco can export to those different languages but doesn't run the machines itself. UGS is one of several pieces of software that can run my machines, but it's the one I prefer to use.

SIR! Why did you change the toolpath from outside to along? Now won't the centerline of your tool be exactly on the outside profile of your rectangle, this cutting into your perimeter by half the tool diameter????? Please clarify. Thank you.
@JamesDeanDesigns Жыл бұрын
It was purely to show a difference between the options, there was not much logic behind it. Yes you are correct, by selecting along it will cut into your shape by half the width of the bit.

@JamesDeanDesigns Жыл бұрын
Hi. Thank you for that. So I used to do CNC plasma cutting about 20 years ago, I didn't program, I just ran the machine but the way we did it was to have a lead in and lead out. If you turn that setting on, generate the toolpaths you should see the little lead in and out parts. You can then position those (and the shape) to start at the edge of your material. I'm not going to be able to get to a computer until Tuesday now but if you're struggling, message me and I'll get you some screen shots of what I mean
