James was one of the best honky-tonkers there ever was. He won the Ameripolitan Honky Tonk Male of The Year in 2015. In 1969 he won a Texas high school talent contest by singing Johnny Cash and Hank Sr. songs. He was then offered a big label Nashville contract but his grandparents made him turn it down because he was only 16 at the time. He went to try to sign up after he was of age but they told him it was to late for the offer. He didn’t get serious about singing and song writing until many years later. He was 100 percent honky-tonk to the sole. He wrote hundreds of really good songs. He was a true friend and a very dedicated Pal. We will forever miss him. We will never forget you Slim! Love you forever.

Pal and Palette--I see your comment on many of the JAMES HAND videos on youtube. I, like many, just recently discovered his stuff....and I have to say, wow...just amazing. His whole story is both good and sad. But still, he had a chance to share his great music and play with so many who loved and respected him. This clip with Cindy on the steel, just breaks my heart. So much passion in his singing and Cindy's playing. This is a treasure that I hope will get viewed by millions!!....just great! Dig, Dmgrk

I had the pleasure of meeting and talking with Mr Hand this past weekend at the Ameripolitan Awards. He's a great artist for sure but I find him an even greater man; very friendly and easy to talk to. Sincere and gracious.

Man, I agree completely! That beat makes me want to two-step like I’m twenty years old again. Mr. Hand and his band are terrific! We lost an irreplaceable part of country music history when this gentleman recently passed away. I wonder if today’s Nashville even noticed.

The Real Texas Troubadour !Slim lived every song he sang. You can hear his memories come to life in his voice. On occasion if you looked closely you would see the pain drip from his eyes. From Tokio to the Grand Ol Opryland and from Denver to Europe, Willie Nelson nailed it when he declared James "Slim" Hand is the real deal ! Love and Respect, Denver.

@@MorningDove your rabid love of the man is appreciated but he’s clearly inspired by Hank, but hell who wasn’t over the last 60 or 70 years. James is missed for sure🎶

@@Gratefulman1965 Rabid?? I just don't like that every good singer out there is compared to Hank. Everyone has their own unique sound and deserves their own applause. People get fixated on certain entertainers and treat them like gods. Thus, the term "fan" which is short for fanatics. Hank is very good but so are many other musicians!!
