Breaks my heart. I was wounded in Vietnam in 1967 and was medevaced to a hospital in Yokosuka, Japan. It was a U.S. Navy hospital and had American and Japanese nurses. I fell in love with a 21 year old Japanese beauty and she with me. When I was able to get around, she took ne around Japan and to mt. FUJI. I spent many wonderful nights with her and fell hard. I was released after 2 months and had to leave . Damn it hurt then and does to this day. She would be 76 today same as me. Semper Fi.

My parents met dancing to Buck at the Fresno Barn back in the 60's, while my dad was on leave from the U.S.M.C. When my parents passed, I played a lot of his music at their memorial. I remember growing up listening to him and my dad telling me stories of walking in The Barn and Buck and Don playing the Marine Corps Anthem, and of him playing guitar with them a few times on stage. His music will always be in my heart and soul. I sang at the music parties we went to with my dad and we sang quite a few of Buck's songs. Rest in Peace Buck. As a 9 year old, when Buck first broke this one out, our WW2 Vets were still in their 40’s and 50’s, I remember being a little confused, as he sang about being in love with a Japanese Girl. No one ever explained it to me but, as time went on, I got the feeling this song was part of the healing process between our two nations. And yes, I first heard this on my transistor radio made in Japan. I still enjoy this song at 61.
@kea19017 жыл бұрын
At Buck's Crystal Palace, he took requests during shows. You wrote your request on a piece of paper and gave it to one of his staff near the front of the stage, who would relay it later to Buck during song breaks. You could dance next to the stage, with your shoulders next to Buck's feet while he played these golden hits. Once we spent the weekend in Bakersfield so we could catch both the Friday and Saturday shows, with a little trip to the Kern River Canyon during the daytime Saturday. We requested "Made in Japan" on Friday night. He didn't get to it Friday but he played it Saturday. RIP Buck.

This song is at a whole different level. Post WWII Japanese people were hated, Made in Japan was cheap, similar to made in China today. Good Country boy from here where it’s night opposed to their it’s breaking day, flag of Japan rising sun. When he fell in love they were able to bridge the difference of cultures, but there is a difference so they we have come very far together to be better people and the brand has gone through the roof.

Lyrics My transistor radio comes from far away And when it's night over here over there it's a breakin' day I remember all the good times I had a walkin' in the sand With the beautiful girl that I met made in Japan The beauty of her face was beyond my wildest dreams Like cherry blossoms blooming in the mountain in the early spring As we walked by the river and she softly took hold of my hand That's when I fell deep in love with the girl made in Japan In the dark of night we would lay on Tokyo Bay And the singin' of the birds woke us up at the break of day Her smiling eyes always seemed to try to understand All the love in my heart for the girl made in Japan My transistor radio comes from far away And when it's night over here over there it's a breakin' day She cried when she said she'd been promised to another man That's when I left my heart with the girl made in Japan Yes, my heart will always be with the girl made in Japan

Buck Owens and the Buckaroos have been one of my favourite country bands since childhood. I couldn't wait to watch them on the tv series "Hee Haw." Today's country music sounds too much like heavy rock. At 74 I'll just have to keep reminiscing about music from the 60's to the 90's.

I love this sad & sweet song. My uncle fell in love with a beautiful Japanese girl during WW2. They wanted to get married but he was already married & his wife wouldn't give him a divorce even though they were never happy. They were all so young back then.
