My little brother broke my guitar, so he bought me a ukulele so I can keep strumming. I thought of it as a substitute but then I saw part 1 and part 2 of this lesson and played along. It was fun. I'll play more of the uke for a while. Thanks for this beautiful lesson, sir.

Wow! Thanks! Can't thank you enough. Been a gigging jazz vocalist for years. Always had great players so I didn't think much about playing... untill I got a uke in my hand! What fun! Got two bands here in NC but I want a band in the cities I travel to to visit my kids: Portland, Stockholm, Austin and Guanajuato MX. Weird thing is I've heard my father in-law and husband play the instrumental of this for decades and never heard it sung.

Purchased the Jazz course!!! I can't wait to start it. I have so much fun material to cover and learn. I really thank you James for putting together these courses. The lessons are so well thought out and I find them very motivating . You have a way of breaking things down and simplifying the lessons. I look forward every day to seeing what is next to learn. Also, thank you for the user- friendly and organized dashboard where we access all our classes in one place.

You MAKE me stay with it! I like that. Watched your jazz style strumming tutorial, now applying it to Satin Doll (strumming hand - short - long, short - long ... release fretting hand after the longer strum). Song committed to memory🤗 I’m excited!

Thanks for this amazing lesson James! Why does the name of the same chord (10th fret barre) change from Gm7 to Bb6 when played the second time around, for example: comparing Out cattin' vs satin doll?
@robbertzzzzz4 жыл бұрын
Because in a full ensemble the bass part changes. The bass voice always dictates the name of the chord. Gm7 and Bb6 are the same notes: Gm7 is G, Bb, D, F from bottom to top and Bb6 is Bb, D, F, G, so we call those two chords inversions of one another (Bb6 would be the "first inversion" of Gm7, Gm7 the "third inversion" of Bb6). On instruments without a bass register (like the uke) you can play both chords in the exact same way because they contain the same notes.
