Last night I heard the Ellen Jewel version of this song, very slow and bluesy. And I thought, "this would be great to learn on the uke... maybe I'll suggest to Stu to teach it someday." Lo and behold, this morning I do a good search for "uke summertime" and up comes this lesson from two years ago. Thank you, Stu; amazing!

I think your ukulele solo kicks ass more than 90% rock'n'roll guitar solos, how? :D

Great lesson! Thank you!!! Been singing this for decades in bands with other people playing. Sooooo sweet taking things into my own hands; strumming my ukulele and singing. You make it easy! I already know the chords, I know the song backwards and forwards and the strumming comes natural because I know what I want to hear. But you're videos put it all together instantly...and "funly". You're doing so many songs I've sung hundreds of times but just learning to play them for myself! More exciting than I can express! Turning point in my music career.

WOW -- that's is SO great to hear! Thanks for joining in 🎶😊 Sounds like you're going deeper and deeper. In my own experience of studying music all my life, the deeper we go into one (or more) subject(s) the more rewards we will receive. There's an African proverb: "dig one deep well, collect more rain"

@@UkuleleZen Absolutely! I was born into a home with live music; my father and his cousins had a gospel quintet. Got with my future husband as soon as I hit college,1978; he played guitar, wrote music, we recorded, taught music and we eventually had a band. Lost him Christmas Eve night 2013. Fortunate enough to get another great player and band. Moved from PA to NC and meet great players here. Been learning a bit about playing instruments forever, steeped in music theory. I've predominantly been a jazz vocalist. Of late, new band added blues and SOUL!! What joy! Totally obsessed with the freedom of playing uke and singing. I have a host of great guitars and now they're easier to play. I have a song every second of my life. My kids say growing up in our home was like living in a musical; I sing all the time. I love, love music and my way of going deeper, getting close to those old souls, is learning the songs and performing with joy! It's more like channeling, the more the merrier. I know soooo many songs in and out. As I said, you have similar tastes so you go through so many of the ones I love. My mentor, Earl Johnson, and my late husband played Satin Doll all the time. My son and husband played Gypsy Jazz...Django. My well is deep. Haha, you're helping me go deeper. I play from my setlist and then I just hangout with your videos. My favorite is playing in my organic garden and down by the river. Lived in the country my whole life and now I'm remarried and in the mountains of western NC, Appalachian Trail visible from my front porch. Most of my friends are musicians. Thanks again for being a part of my music journey!

Just found your channel, it is May 9, 2023, and I'm looking into getting and playing a Ukulele. I was wondering about the Jazz and Blues possibilities, and I see from a thumbnail to the side of this video, you have a Boogie Woogie Blues video as well, perfect! Thank you for these videos! Edited section: I just watched a couple of other videos (Folsom Prison Blues, nice!), and I was wondering which Ukulele you are playing in this video? The others look like a more traditional style where the tuning keys are. I like the look of the one in this video, more streamlined and the darker wood is nice as well.

Thanks for joining in Mary...it’s always tricky to know what key will work for everyone’s voice... sometimes the right key makes the chord shapes very difficult 😉 If you have a capo… You can move these shapes up to a new Key so you can still play along with the same chord forms in a range that will work for you. Cheers, Stu
