People forget that coleco was a pretty darn good console. The fact that it had expansion capabilities made it even cooler. Just that those dreams were never fully realized in the proper manner...had weird controllers too and not as many people owned it as the 2600.
@gigoman-hu5hm
@gigoman-hu5hm 6 жыл бұрын
to be fair this console was released right when the effects of the video game crash of 1983 were really starting to take effect so it is not Coleco's fault.

TotallyRadicalRetroGames what about intelevision? Which was better?
@TotallyRadical
@TotallyRadical 6 жыл бұрын
gigoman1982 That certainly had some effect but so did the companies internal issues and just not capitalizing on initial successes.
@TotallyRadical
@TotallyRadical 6 жыл бұрын
Larry Medina Good question. Personal preference I guess. Although the intellivision was several years older. I personally would go Coleco just because the controllers were slightly better and the gameplay was better overall for most games. But dont get me wrong the Intellivision had some good games for a console released in the late 70s
@gigoman-hu5hm

TotallyRadicalRetroGames true but one thing I'm sure we can both agree on is that focusing entirely on the Coleco Adam computer was a bad idea for the company.

Yep, that B.C. game came out in 1983, while SMB1 was released in 1985 in Japan. There was a sequel called "Grog's Revenge" that came out in 1984, and it's also a bit of a weird specimen. They tried to give the game a bit of a 3D feel, and your goal is to collect clams to pay tolls at the end of each section.

TotallyRadicalRetroGames Ok. But I don't think that's really true, there were ~ 20000 games for the C64, 10000+ for the ZX Spectrum, ~ 5000 for the Amiga, and who knows how many for the PC-8801 and the PC-9801 that never made it out of Japan. Not talking of all the old DOS games and all the other (especially Japanese)) home computers. Nobody, .. ehm .. let's better say: no sane person has ever even played the majority of them (If you mean: consoles, that's a different thing and quite achievable ... ever played Arcadia 2001 games ? Had some nice (even licensed) ports of highly obscure arcade games you can't find on any other system.)
@TotallyRadical
@TotallyRadical 6 жыл бұрын
Frank Schneider well you may be right. But I'm almost 40 and been playing and collecting games since I was 6. Been messing with emulators since like the late 90s and been watching KZbin since its infancy so there isnt a whole lot I haven't played or seen. Especially on a major console release like this one.

We were one of those families where my dad would come from a work with some of those original floppy discs (actually floppy) absolutely loaded with bootlegged games. As a retro game fan, it's interesting seeing how many consoles existed before I was born. I'm too young for systems like Atari, or Colecovision and most people my age would probably shrug them off as "primitive/stone age," but surprisingly alot of the simple games are fun, and are no more primitive then any minigame in a modern Mario Party, or something.

Well there never was a Lady Bug version for the VCS. At least until 2005 or so when John W Champeau (the guy from Champ games) ported it as homebrew to the VCS. This port is absolutely stunning (but of course not as good as the Colceovision port, as that was one of the best games on the system).

Action Controller had a bunch of buttons in a up right controllers for each finger and had a joystick on top, you cant play Rocky, or Football, or Baseball and a few others without the special controllers.

Always enjoyed my coleco. Also, colecovision was a Connecticut company, my home state. CoLeCo = Connecticut leather company

Leather Company... Makes videogames. Maybe that's why we don't see them around anymore

This system was so underrated, even back in the day. It was light-years ahead of the 2600 and always looked and sounded better than Intellivision. Coleco was probably the ultimate victim of the video game crash. Colecovision still has a terrific library.

BCS quest for tires was on literally everything. Early Apple II. I remember playing this in monochrome at a friend's place.

My favorite dos game was Defender of the Crown. I never could beat it as a kid, but man did I ever play the crap out of it. Gonna have to find a copy and give it another go.

As soon as this video finished I immediately looked for a virtual copy of Oil's Well. I'm having a blast with it.

I had a ColecoVision when I was a kid... pre-NES days. Space Fury was always my favorite. Recently picked up an ADAM but I need to build a power supply for it.

I had the Rocky game back then. It's supposed to be used with the Super Action controllers, which is why you can only throw one kind of punch with the regular ones.

The Coleco had a Z80 architecture, the same as the MSX family of computers. I've played Oil's Wells and BC's Quest for Tires on the MSX back in the day. They are exactly the same. Never had a ColecoVision though.
