Frankenstein - Angry Video Game Nerd (AVGN)

Halloween has arrived, and the Nerd is green with anger at finding out that there are bad video games on the NES and SNES that have been based on another horror legend - Frankenstein. With the aid of a very special-guest reviewer to share in the misery, The Nerd has dug-up three not-so-classics from the 8 and 16 bit era which are clunkier then the main protagonist they feature. He'll be going green with re-appearing bosses, knock-off Street-Fighter moves and infuriating password screens. Enough to make anyone wish theyd never been born (again).
He'll also discover that the monster he's created isn't just sat with him on the couch but embedded deep within his soul, forcing him to carry on torturing himself with terrible games until it destroys him. He should really have listened to Doctor Waldman.....

I love the fight scene with the monster at the end. One of the best AVGN moments for sure. The awesome remix, the editing, the crazy atmosphere, the expressions on the Nerd's face - it's all peak AVGN.

This is a great review because the side character (the monster) is fucking hilarious, it's a nice concise video, the game has epic difficulty, and there's some great laughs. Just a tightly written, quality video :)

My brother got me The Adventures of Dr. Franken when it came out. I don't talk smack about gifts, but the Nerd's complaints about the controls are spot-on. It's a shame though, because the level design was pretty neat, with lots of emphasis on exploration and lots of neat little details. Also, all the monsters in the game had lots of personality and whoever the artists are really did a great job. Not to mention that it has a really kicking soundtrack. But as the Nerd once said, the most important part of the game is being able to play the game, and the controls were slippery and awkward. I can't imagine most people putting in the effort to master it.

As the creation of Doctor Frankenstein, the monster could be considered something akin to his son, and thus would inherit his surname. Calling the monster Frankenstein does make sense, though IIRC his proper name was meant to be Adam, wasn't it?

If you're going to have a password system, do it like Bubble Bobble did: only 5 characters, and only A-J are used as letters.
