Am 70 and have kept a personal & garden journal for years. In 2017 we moved into the mountains (zone 3) my garden journal helps on some things now - but my newer one is priceless! Whole new ball game on the mountain :) But, a journal is a wonderful tool for the garden. I also keep track of the weather each day too. Good video kiddo-thanks

Me too.... you can keep doing it. It's easy. Look up how to build a little plastic dome on top of your garden bed with some half-inch PVC pipe. Just keep putting it out early. I actually start fertilizing everything in February. It's horrible. This year I got ripe blueberries in Tennessee by the end of April.... lol. I almost killed some plants by fertilizing way too early and waking everything up. But hey... screw it. Lol Just figure out how to build a dome and double line it with bedsheets or plastic and put things out as early as you want :)

❤❤❤❤❤ For the master gardener, Tuck. My poor garden, everything is gowing like weeds. My tomato plants are already waist high, flowering, and setting fruit. The cucumbers, squash, cantaloupe, and peppers are flowering and fruiting too. I just harvested mustard about ten days ago, and now it is ready for a second harvest, and my Swiss chard is ready too. Everything is about a month ahead of schedule. Alabama, 7B. My transplents went into the ground between April 6th, and April 9th.

❤TUCK! Yes, patience! I saw so many people buying the wrong soil, complaining about weather not being sunny enough to plant out seedlings, and basically not knowing how to choose proper plants in the garden center today. I wish I could help them all, but the few I do makes me hopeful for their summer gardens.

You are so right about timing, garden in the Southern hemisphere, we have had 3 years of mild winter's, a frost last weekend reminded that we do get severe frosts. When its a mild winter you can plant the cold harder stuff in August, but a more frosty winter wait until September for our area.

We have had a lot of rain and temperatures into the high 40’s at night. We are past frost, but I waited to put out my tomatoes. I have to wait until next week for peppers, until night temperatures are consistently above 55 degrees. I haven’t seen such a cool and moist May in a long time. My neighbor’s gardens have been wiped out by slugs. Glad I avoided that. My tomatoes and peppers will make up the time when the sun comes out.

Yes on transplanting too early. Also on the other end covering and clothing and then a sunny day comes and they get cooked bc you forget or didn’t have time to run and uncover them midday. I always even put cucumber seeds in early May and got great plants (zone 8b). Hardening off death so very true. I used to grow and sell tomatoes. I taught ppl how to harden off but l sadly watched plants I sold be planted in full sun immediately and the plant die. Tomatoes need to be transplanted in natural conditions when it’s 50 at night and no colder and the hardening off needs to happen first for several weeks from new seedlings. Also agree on shady day planting to let them acclimate rather than blasting them on a sunny day.

❤️ Tuck KING of the garden ! 👋🏽😁 This is my 2nd year gardening. I live in NY and the weather is very unpredictable this year. Still cold, but at least starting in the 60’s & 70’s some days at noon. Nights are still pretty cold, but now getting in the 40’s & 50’s. Your right patience is important & timing. Even though I am tempted to transplant, I know I have to wait & transition to hardening the tropical plants. 😅 Don’t want all my hard work to be in vain. This year I am planting more varieties vegetables . Already planted potatoes & carrots outside few weeks after last frost. They have germinated and I have sprouts for the carrots, so excited. Going to start hardening off the tomatoes & peppers for a few days starting next week. Thanks for the advice! Very important for us newbie gardeners! 😄😂

You have very good points. I made the mistake of planting my corn on March 22 instead of April 7 like I did last year. We then stayed cool and moist and half of my corn didn't germinate and I had to re-plant more. Plants are very temperature driven. Thanks for your channel!

I usually wait till the 3rd week of May to plant out in northeast ohio; however, the weather has been so good and the 10 day forecast looks great that this past week seems like a great time to plant. I'm risking it this year for the first time in like 10-15 years!

Lol I was overly excited this year. I started plants end of February. I let them sit inside for a long time. I recently put them in the ground. Maybe a week or 2 ago. I throw a frost blanket over my plants when it dips below 50. My stuff seems OK so far. I just started a second sow of plants for my self just in case these don't work out. My first year gardening. I've always had herbs, I've spent thousands of dollars wasting money on plants and stuff for growing plants over the years just to have it eaten by deer and other animals. Now this year I built a 40ftx3ft fenced in raised bed system and I'm excited to finally have plants. I also am working on fencing a large area around my chicken coop for my chickens to roam and I don't have to worry as much. Going to do pumpkins in that and I have herbs that always do good over there. Also chopped a few trees down and had someone come with a machine to clear out behind my garage which I might fence in that large are and put in a green house. This year, to get it going I threw down wild flower seeds, some herbs and bunching onions and alium down to hopefully deter the deer issue I have. I'm keeping up on the deer repellent this year to get things established. I also did a couple packets of corn and pumpkins back there to see what happens. We will see. Really enjoying your tips and videos. Hoping I can become a better gardener with more knowledge. Not new to the scene, been around gardens my whole life with my Italian family. I'm super excited though so I definitely jumped the gun. Can't wait.
